چکیده

The atomic structure of the (1120) surface of cobalt has been determined by LEED using six intensity spectra at normal incidence. The surface exhibits the truncated bulk structure with a contraction of the first interlayer spacing by about 8.5% with respect to the bulk value. Quantitative evaluation of the LEED spectra was done using Zanazzi and Jona’s and Pendry’s r-factors. The minimum averaged r-factors are ?, = 0.09 and F, = 0.22. No change of the interatomic distances within the plane could be detected and no rearrangement of the surface structure takes place up to temperatures shortly below the transition temperature.

Use of periodic approximants in a dynamical LEED study of the quasicrystalline tenfold surface of decagonal Al-Ni-Co

The determination of quasicrystal QC surface structures is a challenge to current surface structure techniques. Low-energy electron diffraction LEED is the primary technique for the determination of periodic surface structures, but application of dynamical LEED to quasicrystals requires the use of many approximations. In this study, two different approaches were used to apply dynamical LEED to ...

CO Adsorption on Reconstructed Ir(100) Surfaces from UHV to mbar Pressure: A LEED, TPD, and PM-IRAS Study.

Clean and stable surface modifications of an iridium (100) single crystal, i.e., the (1 × 1) phase, the (5 × 1) reconstruction, and the oxygen-terminated (2 × 1)-O surface, were prepared and characterized by low energy electron diffraction (LEED), temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) and polarization modulation IRAS (PM-IRAS). The adsorptio...

SURFACE SCIENCE LETTERS STRUCTURE OF THE CLEAN Ta(100) SURFACE A. TITOV and W. MORITZ

The clean Ta(100) surface and some aspects of hydrogen adsorption have been studied by LEED and AES. The thorough examination of LEED patterns did not provide any evidence for an atomic reconstruction of the clean surface over the entire temperature range investigated, 150-600 K. The r-factor analysis used for comparison between measured and calculated IV spectra yields a contraction of the top...

Interaction of CO with Surface PdZn Alloys

The adsorption and bonding configuration of CO on clean and Zn-covered Pd(111) surfaces was studied using Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED), Temperature Programmed Desorption (TPD) and High Resolution Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (HREELS). LEED and TPD results indicate that annealing at 550 K is sufficient to induce reaction between adsorbed Zn atoms and the Pd(111) surface resulting ...

Existence, character, and origin of surface-related bands in the high temperature iron pnictide superconductor BaFe(2-x)Co(x)As2.

Low energy electron diffraction (LEED) experiments, LEED simulations, and finite slab density functional calculations are combined to study the cleavage surface of Co doped BaFe(2-x)Co(x)As2 (x = 0.1,0.17). We demonstrate that the energy dependence of the LEED data can only be understood from a terminating 1/2 Ba layer accompanied by distortions of the underlying As-Fe2-As block. As a result, s...
