Chandra Observations of Three SDSS

چکیده
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) quasars at redshift z ≈ 6 (Fan et al. 2001) are the most distant condensed objects known in the universe. X-ray observations of them are of great importance; e.g., to study the cosmic time evolution of X-ray emission and to assess the detectability of quasar X-ray emission at even larger redshifts. All three quasars were easily detected in X-rays even in these relatively short observations (Table 1). However, as shown in Schwartz (2002c), none were totally isolated point sources.

A Chandra Search for X-ray Jets in Redshift 6 Quasars
We have searched for X-ray jets in the recent Chandra observations of three Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) quasars at redshift z ≈ 6. All 3 quasars were detected in X-rays in these relatively short observations. SDSS1030+0524 is not consistent with a point source, and may be a gravitationally lensed system. We find a possible jet-like feature 23 from the quasar SDSS 1306+0356. We can explain t...
متن کاملXMM-Newton observations of SDSS J143030.22−001115.1: an unusually flat spectrum AGN
We present XMM-Newton observations of the AGN SDSS 1430-0011. The low S/N spectrum of this source obtained in a snap shot Chandra observation showed an unusually flat continuum. With the follow up XMM-Newton observations we find that the source spectrum is complex; it either has an ionized absorber or a partially covering absorber. The underlying power-law is in the normal range observed for AG...
متن کاملTHE FIELD X-RAY AGN FRACTION TO z = 0.7 FROM THE CHANDRA MULTIWAVELENGTH PROJECT AND THE SLOAN DIGITAL SKY SURVEY
We employ the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP) and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to study the fraction of X-ray-active galaxies in the field to z = 0.7. We utilize spectroscopic redshifts from SDSS and ChaMP, as well as photometric redshifts from several SDSS catalogs, to compile a parent sample of more than 100,000 SDSS galaxies and nearly 1,600 Chandra X-ray detections. Detailed ...
متن کاملTYPE II QUASARS FROM THE SDSS: IV. Chandra AND XMM-Newton OBSERVATIONS REVEAL HEAVILY ABSORBED SOURCES
We are carrying out sensitive X-ray observations with Chandra and XMM of type II quasars selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey based on their optical emission line properties. In this paper we present the first results of our program. We present observations of four objects at redshifts 0.4 < z < 0.8 and an analysis of the archival data for four additional objects in the same redshift rang...
متن کاملThe X-ray Properties of the Most-luminous Quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
Utilizing 21 new Chandra observations as well as archival Chandra, ROSAT, and XMM-Newton data, we study the X-ray properties of a representative sample of 59 of the most optically luminous quasars in the Universe (Mi ≈ −29.3 to −30.2) spanning a redshift range of z ≈ 1.5–4.5. Our full sample consists of 32 quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 3 (DR3) quasar catalog, two...
