Gym Membership: an Application of theWeibull Distribution
نویسنده
چکیده
The Swedish physicist, Waloddi Weibull, is renowned for formulating a family of probability distributions for modelling the variability of nonnegative, quantitative, random phenomena (see reference 3). The distribution was originally designed to model the breaking strength of steel (Weibull was scientific advisor to Bofors, the Swedish steel company) but, since then, Weibull analysis has evolved to provide a concise, but flexible, framework for describing and interpreting survival-type data. Indeed, it has been extensively applied in various disciplines ranging from engineering (see reference 1) to ecology (see reference 2) despite Weibull’s own modest understatement that ‘... itmay sometimes render good service.’ The illustrative example in this article is a business application.

The Application of Fuzzy Logic in Social Science Research (A Fuzzy Analysis of Social Development in Tehran)
The present research aimed to study the application of Fuzzy logic in social science research. In this regard, based on two variables, Social Capital and Quality of Life, the degree of Tehran’s membership in the set of social development was studied using FSQCA software. This research was an applied and descriptive research methodologically; and extensive in quantitative...
متن کاملArithmetic Aggregation Operators for Interval-valued Intuitionistic Linguistic Variables and Application to Multi-attribute Group Decision Making
The intuitionistic linguistic set (ILS) is an extension of linguisitc variable. To overcome the drawback of using single real number to represent membership degree and non-membership degree for ILS, the concept of interval-valued intuitionistic linguistic set (IVILS) is introduced through representing the membership degree and non-membership degree with intervals for ILS in this paper. The oper...
متن کاملAn Empirical Comparison between Grade of Membership and Principal Component Analysis
t is the purpose of this paper to contribute to the discussion initiated byWachter about the parallelism between principal component (PC) and atypological grade of membership (GoM) analysis. The author testedempirically the close relationship between both analysis in a lowdimensional framework comprising up to nine dichotomous variables and twotypologies. Our contribution to the subject is also...
متن کاملNber Working Paper Series Overestimating Self-control: Evidence from the Health Club Industry
Experimental evidence suggests that people make time-inconsistent choices and display overconfidence about positive personal attributes. Do these features affect consumer behavior in the market? To address this question we use a new panel data set from three US health clubs with information on the contract choices and the day-to-day attendance decisions of 7,978 health club members over three y...
متن کاملFUZZY GOAL PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUE TO SOLVE MULTIOBJECTIVE TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS WITH SOME NON-LINEAR MEMBERSHIP FUNCTIONS
The linear multiobjective transportation problem is a special type of vector minimum problem in which constraints are all equality type and the objectives are conicting in nature. This paper presents an application of fuzzy goal programming to the linear multiobjective transportation problem. In this paper, we use a special type of nonlinear (hyperbolic and exponential) membership functions to ...
