Robinson Cytological Grading of Breast Carcinoma on Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology- an Overview

چکیده
Aim: To find out utility of grading breast carcinoma on fine needle aspiration (FNA) as per the criteria proposed by Robinson and Colleagues and compare it with histological grading proposed by Elston and Ellis based on method by Nottingham’s modification of Bloom and Richardson system. Methods: Cytological smears of 58 cases of breast carcinoma diagnosed on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) were graded according to the Robinson grading system. The corresponding histological sections were classified as per the classification proposed by World Health Organization (WHO) in 2003 and histological grading was done by Elston and Ellis’s modification of BloomRichardson method. Results: Cytological grading showed an absolute correlation with the histological grade in 82.76% cases. Conclusion: Cytology grading proposed by Robinson and colleagues could be a useful parameter for selection of neoadjuvant therapy and for predicting the prognosis of the patient on fine needle aspiration cytology alone.

Comparative evaluation of six parametric Robinson and three parametric Howell's modification of Scarf-BloomRichardson grading method on breast aspirates with histopathology: A prospective study
Background Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a quick method to assess the tumor grade before its removal which will help clinicians to decide on the appropriate neo adjuvant therapy. This is essentially true in developing countries where core needle biopsy still is not used as a standard practice to sample breast carcinoma. Assessment of biological aggressiveness by cytological grading ...
متن کاملCorrelation of Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology and Core Needle Biopsies in Breast carcinoma: Our experience
Background: The management of breast carcinoma relies heavily on the diagnostic parameters. Over the years there has been a steady decline in the usage of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) over more popular core needle biopsy (CNB). The present study was conducted in a tertiary care teaching hospital to evaluate the role of FNAC and CNB in diagnosis of suspicious breast cancer by keeping m...

Background: Spontaneous infarction is an uncommon complication of fibroadenoma of the breast. Although infarction following fine needle aspiration (FNA) has been reported in the literature, infarction encountering on first time aspiration is very rare. Lack of knowledge of this entity may lead to an erroneous diagnosis of inflammatory lesion like mastitis and carcinoma on cytology smears. Case...
متن کاملComparison of 3-Tier Cytological Grading Systems for Breast Carcinoma
Background. Fine-needle aspiration cytology plays a major role in the primary diagnosis of breast carcinoma. Cytological grading of the smears can provide valuable prognostic information and aid in planning the management options. Aim. To evaluate various 3-tier cytological grading systems and to determine the best possible system which is reliable and objective for use in routine practice. Mat...
متن کاملComparative Evaluation of Three Cytological Grading Systems for Carcinoma Breast
Background: Fine needle aspiration cytology is an important tool in the diagnosis, prognosis and management of breast carcinoma. It has been recommended that cytological grading should be included in the FNA reports to know the tumor aggressiveness and prognostication. Among the many cytological grading systems existing, there is still no agreement on the most reliable system. Aim: The study wa...
