چکیده

Recently there has been increasing interest in species sampling priors, the nonparametric priors defined as the directing random probability measures of the species sampling sequences. In this paper, we show that not all of the species sampling priors produce consistent posteriors. In particular, in the class of Pitman-Yor process priors, the only priors rendering posterior consistency are essentially the Dirichlet process priors. Under certain conditions, we also give a set of necessary and sufficient conditions for the posterior consistency for the general species sampling prior. Considered examples include the normalized inverse-Gaussian process, the Poisson-Kingman partition, and the Gibbs partition.

On Posterior Consistency of Survival Models

Ghosh and Ramamoorthi (1995) studied the posterior consistency for survival models and showed that the posterior was consistent, when the prior on the distribution of survival times was the Dirichlet process prior. In this paper, we study the posterior consistency of survival models with neutral to the right process priors which include Dirichlet process priors. A set of suucient conditions for...

Inference from Intrinsic Bayes’ Procedures Under Model Selection and Uncertainty

In this paper we present a fully coherent and consistent objective Bayesian analysis of the linear regression model using intrinsic priors. The intrinsic prior is a scaled mixture of g-priors and promotes shrinkage towards the subspace defined by a base (or null) model. While it has been established that the intrinsic prior provides consistent model selectors across a range of models, the poste...

Generalized Weighted Chinese Restaurant Processes for Species Sampling Mixture Models

The class of species sampling mixture models is introduced as an extension of semiparametric models based on the Dirichlet process to models based on the general class of species sampling priors, or equivalently the class of all exchangeable urn distributions. Using Fubini calculus in conjunction with Pitman (1995, 1996), we derive characterizations of the posterior distribution in terms of a p...

Posterior Consistency of Bayesian Nonparametric Models Using Lévy Random Field Priors

Department of Statistical Science, Duke University March 24, 2008 We show the posterior consistency of certain nonparametric regression models using Lévy Random field priors. An easily verifiable sufficient condition is derived for the posterior consistency to hold in popular models which use Lévy random fields for regression and function estimation. We apply our results to a Poisson regression...

Benchmark Priors for Bayesian Model Averaging

In contrast to a posterior analysis given a particular sampling model, posterior model probabilities in the context of model uncertainty are typically rather sensitive to the specification of the prior. In particular, “diffuse” priors on model-specific parameters can lead to quite unexpected consequences. Here we focus on the practically relevant situation where we need to entertain a (large) n...
