چکیده

I numerically model broad-bandwidth optical parametric oscillation and amplification to explore the influence of pump bandwidth on conversion efficiency, injection seeding, and generated spectra. I also study narrowbandwidth pumping of broad-bandwidth signal and idler waves. I show that the relative group velocities of the three waves have a critical effect on device performance in all cases and provide physical explanations for this. © 2005 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 190.4970, 190.2620, 190.4360, 190.4410.

Theory of backward distributed-feedback optical parametric amplifiers and oscillators

We derive a coupled-wave theory for backward phase-matched optical parametric amplifiers and oscillators in a dielectric modulated nonlinear optical material. Unlike a forward phase-matched distributed-feedback optical parametric oscillator, a backward oscillator of this type can have high-threshold gap modes at Bragg resonance and low-threshold detuned modes. In addition to the structure feedb...

Investigations on the beam pointing stability of a pulsed optical parametric oscillator.

Although the beam pointing stability of optical parametric oscillators and amplifiers is important for various applications few results on this parameter have been published. Here, we investigate the beam pointing stability of an injection-seeded, nanosecond optical parametric oscillator, compare it to its pump laser, and measure correlations between them. Although correlation between both quan...

Impact of Fourth-Order Dispersion Coefficient on the Gain Spectrum and the Saturation Behavior of One-Pump Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers

In this paper, the gain spectrum and the saturation behavior of one-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers (1-P FOPAs) are investigated by taking into account the fourth-order dispersion coefficient b4 in the analysis. The results show that it is necessary to consider b4 in the analysis when the wavelength difference between the signal and pump waves is large enough and/or whenever the pump w...

Impact of Input Pump Profile on the Gain Spectrum and the Saturation Behavior of One-Pump Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers

In this article, the impact of input pump profile on the gain spectrum as well as the saturation behavior of one-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers (FOPAs) is investigated. Since in practical circumstances, pump sources used for FOPAs have Lorentz-Gaussian profile instead of Gaussian, a more realistic case is considered for simulating FOPAs in this article. The results of simulations for ...

Close-in Contrast Measurements of the New ps OPCPA Front End

The technique of Optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) is becoming increasingly popular as pre-amplifiers for seeding laser systems [1,2] and as potential amplifiers for extremely high peak power systems. This is because they are capable of amplifying a broad bandwidth and can have large gains. Our previous study of the ASE contrast of the Vulcan laser system [3] demonstrated t...
