چکیده

We illustrate in the present paper how steady-state and unsteady-steady three-dimensional transport phenomena problems can be solved using the Chebyshev orthogonal collocation technique. All problems are elucidated using the ubiquitous software: MATLAB 1 . The treated case studies include: (1) unsteadystate heat conduction in a parallelepiped body, (2) quenching of a brick, (3) transient diffusion of a colorant in a liquid, and (4) steady-state natural convection in an enclosure. Whenever possible, the results obtained with the spectral method are bench-marked against the analytical solution in order to validate the proposed numerical technique. 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. کاربرد مدل‌سازی عددی سه‌بعدی در شبیه‌سازی پدیده‌های پیچیده مهندسی رودخانه

Most of river engineering problems are complicated and need to be analyzed by three dimensional models of flow and sediment transport. Considering the fact that computers and numerical methods with great ability of flow and sediment transport simulation are developing quickly, using numerical modeling by engineers is inevitable. Nevertheless, before application, numerical models need to be veri...

DAMAGE IDENTIFICATION BY USING MODAL EXPANSION AND TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION IN THREE DIMENSIONAL ELASTICITY PROBLEMS

In this paper, topology optimization is utilized for damage detection in three dimensional elasticity problems. In addition, two mode expansion techniques are used to derive unknown modal data from measured data identified by installed sensors. Damages in the model are assumed as reduction of mass and stiffness in the discretized finite elements. The Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization (...

Solution of six chemical engineering problems using the Chebyshev orthogonal collocation technique

The Chebyshev orthogonal collocation is a powerful and accurate numerical technique, which is also relatively easy to implement using modern mathematical software (e.g., MATHEMATICA and MATLAB). This technique allows the elucidation of engineering problems involving partial differentials equations or boundary value problems. Six chemical engineering problems concerning the transfer of momentum,...

Comparison of different numerical methods for calculating stress intensity factors in analysis of fractured structures

In this research, an efficient Galerkin Finite Volume Method (GFVM) along with the h–refinement adaptive process and post–processing error estimation analysis is presented for fracture analysis. The adaptive strategy is used to produce more accurate solution with the least computational cost. To investigate the accuracy and efficiency of the developed model, the GFVM is compared with two versio...

Time-Discontinuous Finite Element Analysis of Two-Dimensional Elastodynamic Problems using Complex Fourier Shape Functions

This paper reformulates a time-discontinuous finite element method (TD-FEM) based on a new class of shape functions, called complex Fourier hereafter, for solving two-dimensional elastodynamic problems. These shape functions, which are derived from their corresponding radial basis functions, have some advantages such as the satisfaction of exponential and trigonometric function fields in comple...
