Adverse Drug Reactions in Herding-Breed Dogs: The Role of P-Glycoprotein*
نویسنده
چکیده
P-glycoprotein, encoded by the MDR1 gene, plays an important role in the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of many drugs. Thus it is not surprising that lack of P-glycoprotein, which occurs in many herding-breed dogs, leads to increased susceptibility to drug toxicosis (e.g., use of ivermectin and other drug sensitivities in collies). By using a genetic test, it is now possible to predict which dogs will experience drug sensitivity and which will tolerate routine doses of drugs. Comparison of gastric adverse effects of aspirin and celecoxib before and after eradicating Helicobacter spp. infection in dogs
The present study was carried out to determine whether Helicobacter spp. infection in dogs could affect lesions caused by the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin and celecoxib. Thirty asymptomatic mixed-breed dogs were used for this study. Gastric biopsies were taken via gastroscopy and evaluated by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and rapid urease tests (RUT). Helicobacter s...

Modern dog breeding has given rise to more than 400 breeds differing both in morphology and behaviour. Traditionally, kennel clubs have utilized an artificial category system basedon themorphological similarity andhistorical functionof eachdogbreed. Behavioural comparisons at the breed-group level produced ambiguous results as to whether the historical function still has an influence on the bre...
متن کاملEnvironmental Factors Associated with Success Rates of Australian Stock Herding Dogs
This study investigated the current management practices associated with stock herding dogs on Australian farms. A parallel goal was to determine whether these practices and the characteristics of the dog handlers were associated with success rates. Success rate refers to the proportion of dogs acquired by the farmer that were retained as working dogs. Data on a total of 4,027 dogs were obtaine...
متن کاملComparing adverse effects of docetaxel-doxorubicin and paclitaxel-doxorubicin regimens in breast cancer patients
Introduction: Taxanes have emerged as one of the most active agents in the treatment of patients with breast cancer. Nevertheless, questions remain with regard to their toxicity profiles. This study aimed to compare prevalence and severity of adverse effects of two chemotherapy regimens including taxanes (docetaxel or paclitaxel) in breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients ...

P-glycoprotein (P-gp), the product of ABCB1 gene, is thought to play a role in the biliary excretion of a variety of drugs, but specific studies in dogs have not been performed. Because a number of endogenous (ABCB1 polymorphisms) and exogenous (pharmacological P-gp inhibition) factors can interfere with normal P-gp function, a better understanding of P-gp's role in biliary drug excretion is cr...
