Occurrence of Organochlorine Pesticide Residues in Eggs and Poultry Meat

A survey was undertaken for screening the organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) residue in eggs and meat samples collected from Namakkal (Tamil Nadu). Samples were analyzed by thin layer chromatography and con rmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Total endosulfan in egg (33.33 %) and broiler meat (50%) were exceeded the MRL of Codex alimentarius. Desi chicken adipose tissue had high incidence (58.33 %) of endosulfan (28.57 ± 2.85 ppb), but below the permissible MRL. DDT was detected below MRL in meat. Collectively, it suggested that the presence of OCPs residues, though at low level, still continues to be a threat for poultry products.
