چکیده

Infrared JKs-band photometry of the Galactic globular clusters M15 and, for the first time, M56 is presented. We estimated the reddening (E(B − V) = 0.18 ± 0.08 mag) and distance modulus ((m − M)V = 15.43 ± 0.30 mag) towards the poorly studied globular cluster M56. We combined our data with observations of other clusters from the literature (12 in total) to extend the [Fe/H] vs. Red Giant Branch (RGB) slope relation towards metal-poor clusters. Our best fit yields to [Fe/H] = −3.40(±0.22) − 27.74(±2.35) × (RGB Slope), with an r.m.s. = 0.20. The broader metallicity baseline greatly reduced the uncertainties compared to other existing calibrations. We confirmed a previously obtained calibration of the relation between the RGB color (J − Ks)0(RGB) at MKs = −5.5 vs. Based on data taken at the Steward Observatory 2.3m Bok Telescope equipped with the 256x256 near IR camera.

The Red Giant Branch in Near - Infrared Colour - Magnitude Diagrams . I : The calibration of photometric indices ⋆

We present new high-quality near-infrared photometry of 10 Galactic Globular Clusters spanning a wide metallicity range (−2.126[Fe/H]6 − 0.49): five clusters belong to the Halo (namely, NGC 288, NGC 362, NGC 6752, M 15 and M 30) and five (namely, NGC 6342, NGC 6380, NGC 6440, NGC 6441 and NGC 6624) to the Bulge. By combining J, H and K observations with optical data, we constructed Colour-Magni...

CCD photometry of M 80 and the ranking of the C-M diagrams of galactic globulars

We present deep B and V CCD photometry of the intermediate metallicity, high central density galactic globular cluster M 80. More than 10000 stars have been measured, reaching a limiting magnitude V ' 23. The color magnitude diagram shows a population of very hot horizontal branch (HB) stars, stretching down to V magnitudes fainter than those of the turn off stars, to the limiting level of the ...

Near - Infrared photometry of four metal - rich Bulge globular clusters : NGC 6304 , NGC 6569 , NGC 6637 , NGC 6638 ⋆

We present high-quality near-Infrared photometry of four Bulge metal-rich globular clusters, namely: NGC 6304, NGC 6569, NGC 6637 and NGC 6638. By using the observed Colour-Magnitude Diagrams we derived a photometric estimates of the cluster reddening and distance. We performed a detailed analysis of the Red Giant Branch, presenting a complete description of morphologic parameters and evolution...

On the calibration of Red Giant Branch metallicity indicators in globular clusters: new relations based on an improved abundance scale

We present an improved calibration of photometric metallicity indicators, derived from the new metallicity scale for Globular Clusters presented by Carretta & Gratton (1997) and based on direct high resolution spectroscopy of 160 stars in 24 globular clusters. We have carefully recalibrated the traditional abundance indices based upon the red giant branch (RGB) morphology, both in the V,B − V a...

Metallicities and Radial Velocities of Five Open Clusters Including a New Candidate Member of the Monoceros Stream ⋆ Steven

Near infrared spectra of 133 red giant stars from ten Galactic open clusters and two Galactic globular clusters spanning 2.2 dex in metallicity and 11 Gyr in age are presented. We combine this sample with ten clusters from Cole and collaborators to investigate the Ca II triplet line strengths and their relation to cluster metallicity and position along the red giant branch. We show that charact...
