چکیده

Attempting to take advantage of recent displays of preferences for goods with superior levels of environmental performance, many governments and independent organizations have implemented a variety of programs designed to disseminate information on the environmental performance of companies or products. The most popular type of program is known as an eco-labeling or environmental certification program. Under this type of program, products meeting a specified level of environmental quality or performance are awarded a certification signifying this achievement. This paper presents an analysis of these programs, using a spatial product differentiation model to optimize the choice of the level of environmental performance necessary to acquire the certification. The social welfare effects of an optimized certification program are reviewed and compared to those of more traditional forms of environmental regulation. JEL Classification: D62, D82, L15, Q00

Differentiation in Adoption of Environmental Standards: LEED

Understanding how firms adopt voluntary quality or environmental standards is important for designing such programs and evaluating their success. We study the adoption of LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), an internationally recognized environmental building certification system. LEED offers four levels of certification, corresponding to greater investments in green building te...

Eco-Labelling under Imperfect Certification: An Economic Analysis

Environmental quality is often a credence good and consumers are unable to distinguish between green and brown products. The paper aims to investigate the role of certification in providing information about product quality and reducing market inefficiencies when the certification process is imperfect. We consider a duopoly in a vertically differentiated product model where firms compete in qua...

An Efficient Bayesian Optimal Design for Logistic Model

Consider a Bayesian optimal design with many support points which poses the problem of collecting data with a few number of observations at each design point. Under such a scenario the asymptotic property of using Fisher information matrix for approximating the covariance matrix of posterior ML estimators might be doubtful. We suggest to use Bhattcharyya matrix in deriving the information matri...

Investigating the Effect of Overflow Effects from Heat Sector of Iran on Greenhouse Gas Emissions; Application of Space Durbin Model

Issues related to environment are one of the most important issues that confront communities in recent decades.   Resource scarcity and the necessity of development for Iran and other similar countries requires us to deal with carbon dioxide emissions as a manifestation of environmental crisis. In this study, we assess the relationship between carbon dioxide emissions as a dependent variable wi...

Determination of Optimal Sampling Design for Spatial Data Analysis

Extended Abstract. Inferences for spatial data are affected substantially by the spatial configuration of the network of sites where measurements are taken. Consider the following standard data-model framework for spatial data. Suppose a continuous, spatially-varying quantity, Z, is to be observed at a predetermined number, n, of points ....[ To Countinue Click here]
