چکیده
Wireless LAN technology is becoming increasingly popular for a wide variety of applications. After evaluating the technology, most users are convinced of its reliability, satisfied with its performance and are ready to use it for large-scale and complex wireless networks. Originally designed for indoor office applications, today's Wireless LANs can be used for both indoor peer-to-peer networks as well as for outdoor point-to-point and point-to-multipoint remote bridging applications. Wireless LANs can be designed to be modular and very flexible. They can also be optimized for different environments. For example, point-to-point outdoor links are less susceptible to interference and can have higher performance if designers increase the " dwell time " and disable the " collision avoidance " and " fragmentation " mechanisms described later in this section. Traditional LANs (Local Area Networks) link PCs and other computers to one another and to file servers, printers and other network equipment using cables or optic fibers as the transmission medium.

User-Controlled Handover in Wireless LANs
This paper adresses the optimization of handovers in a Wireless LAN/Mobile IP/QoS environment by giving control over the link layer handover process to the mobile node. This is done by transfering parts of the hardware’s functionality to a management software residing on the mobile node. The required handover thresholds have been determined by analyzing the wireless LAN hardware. The implemente...

Wi-Fi applications have blossomed tremendously over the last few years. What started out as cable replacement for static desktops in indoor networks has been extended to fully mobile broadband applications involving wide-area outdoor community networks, moving vehicles, high-speed trains, and even airplanes. Wi-Fi data rates have also continued to increase from 2 to 54 Mbit/s with current 802.1...

This paper presents the results of a study toward generating a wireless environment to provide realtime mobile accessibility to patient information system. A trial system is set up where database, Internet, and wireless personal digital assistants (PDAs) are integrated in such a way that the medical professionals like physicians, nurses, and lab assistants can create, access, and update medical...
متن کاملInterworking between High-speed Portable Internet and Existing Wireless LANs using Different AAA Protocols
With the growth of wireless technologies rapidly, there will be coexist heterogeneous wireless LANs environment within a few years. For example, there may be coexist current wireless LAN systems based widely available 802.11 and a wireless LAN system based proprietary wireless LAN standard with different AAA mechanisms such as RADIUS and Diameter. In case of being coexisted the heterogeneous wi...
متن کاملAn architecture for wireless LAN/WAN integration
To allow a seamless integration between wireless LANs and Wireless WANs, we developed a full stack adaptation model and a simple subnet architecture that superimposes Mobile-IP on cellular-type wireless LANs. The idea is to use Mobile IP as an integrative layer atop different LAN/WAN networks. While Mobile-IP is widely used in wireless WANs, it is not known how well it performs under a wireless...
