چکیده

In this contribution, a time-varying linear prediction method is applied to speech processing. In contrast to the commonly used linear prediction approach, the proposed time-varying method considers the continuous time evolution of the vocal tract and, additionally, avoids block-wise processing. On the assumption that the linear predictor coefficients evolve linearly in sections and continuously over the whole signal, the optimum time-varying coefficients can be determined quasi-analytically by a least mean square approach. The investigations show that the method fits very well the realization of a time-varying pre-emphasis. Furthermore, the results show that the method is suitable for time-varying inverse filtering.

The Effect of Training and Task-Planning on the Complexity of Iranian Learners’ Oral Speech

The shift of emphasis away from written to oral skills has stimulated an incipient concern in second language research to investigate ways of helping second and foreign language learners achieve higher degrees of oral proficiency. Priority solely taken over accuracy, complexity, or fluency of speech might be justifiable with regard to the context in which learning takes place.  Accuracy and com...

Speech Enhancement Using Gaussian Mixture Models, Explicit Bayesian Estimation and Wiener Filtering

Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) of power spectral densities of speech and noise are used with explicit Bayesian estimations in Wiener filtering of noisy speech. No assumption is made on the nature or stationarity of the noise. No voice activity detection (VAD) or any other means is employed to estimate the input SNR. The GMM mean vectors are used to form sets of over-determined system of equatio...

Watermark recovery from speech using inverse filtering and sign correlation

This paper presents an improved method for asynchronous embedding and recovery of sub-audible watermarks in speech signals. The watermark, a sequence of DTMF tones, was added to speech without knowledge of its time-varying characteristics. Watermark recovery began by implementing a synchronized zero-phase inverse filtering operation to decorrelate the speech during its voiced segments. The fina...

Speech Enhancement by Modified Convex Combination of Fractional Adaptive Filtering

This paper presents new adaptive filtering techniques used in speech enhancement system. Adaptive filtering schemes are subjected to different trade-offs regarding their steady-state misadjustment, speed of convergence, and tracking performance. Fractional Least-Mean-Square (FLMS) is a new adaptive algorithm which has better performance than the conventional LMS algorithm. Normalization of LMS ...

Influence of Differences between Inverse Filtering Techniques on the Residual Signal of Speech

Introduction Human speech production is characterized by two major processes: i) the source signal generation, which is either the quasi-periodic vibration of the vocal folds in voiced sounds, a turbulent airstream in voiceless sounds, or a combination of both in voiced fricatives, and ii) the slowly varying shape of the vocal tract causing a time-varying modulation of the spectral envelope of ...
