Atraumatic pneumopericardium in a full-term newborn with fetal tachycardia.

چکیده
Pneumopericardium is an uncommon complication of the neonatal transition period, occurring in 1.3 percent of premature neonates in intensive care settings. Its occurrence is usually associated with some type of barotrauma or respiratory intervention, such as endotracheal intubation or administration of continuous positive airway pressure, and is almost exclusively a problem for the premature infant. The purpose of this case report is to describe the occurrence of pneumopericardium in a fullterm infant who had no apparent barotrauma and whose symptoms were tachycardia and mild respiratory difficulty. We will also review the diagnosis and current therapy of this potentially serious complication in a newborn who develops respiratory distress during transition.

Common Symptoms, but Rare Diagnoses in Neonatology.
In this issue of Pediatric Annals, the articles discuss newborns who present with common neonatal symptomology, but have rare diagnostic outcomes. In the first article, Drs. Alison Chu and Harvey K. Chiu discuss tachypnea and hypoglycemia, commonly presenting symptoms during the newborn period. In the illustrated case, the early and persistent hypoglycemia was a clue to the newborn’s underlying...

Background: Neonatal pneumopericardium (PPC) is a rare clinical condition usually associated with other air leak syndromes. It increases morbidity and mortality due to cardiac tamponade. Case report: A preterm male neonate weighing 1260 g was born with the gestational age of 28 weeks. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was routinely performed without any medical therapy. The newborn was transferred ...
متن کاملNeonatal Pneumopericardium in a Nonventilated Term Infant: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Neonatal pneumopericardium (PPC) is a rare form of neonatal air leak syndrome with high morbidity and mortality. Air leak syndrome in the newborn is usually associated with active resuscitation, respiratory distress syndrome, meconium aspiration syndrome, mechanical ventilation, or trauma associated with labour. Neonatal PPC can be associated with other air leak syndromes such as pneumomediasti...
متن کاملSpinnaker Sail Sign Accompanied with Pneumopericardium and Pneumoperitoneum
Air-leak syndromes include pneumomediastinum, pneumothorax, pneumopericardium, pneumoperitoneum, pulmonary interstitial emphysema and subcutaneous emphysema. Pneumothorax and pneumomediastinum occur in 1 to 2% of normal neonates and they usually has no symptoms and resolves spontaneously. Here we report sudden fatal pneumomediastinum accompanied with pneumopericardium and pneumoperitoneum in no...

OBJECTIVES To determine: (1) whether a lumbar puncture (LP) is indicated in asymptomatic full-term newborns delivered by mothers at risk of intrapartum sepsis; and (2) whether gentamicin improves bacterial coverage for such newborns when used with ampicillin. DESIGN A retrospective chart review from 1987 through 1993 of all newborns with positive blood and/or cerebrospinal fluid cultures in t...
