چکیده

Silver, one of the precious and noble metals, is used in large quantities for many purposes, particularly in the photographic industry. It has been reported that 25% of the world’s silver needs are supplied by recycling and that 75% of this is obtained from photographic waste. For this reason, the methods applied to recover silver from photographic waste are important in reducing cost and time, and have a positive effect on environmental pollution. Compared to other films, waste X-ray photographic film contains a great deal of silver to enhance its sensitivity to transmitted X-rays and 1.5% to 2.0% silver by weight survives in the emulsion on the polyester film base, even after the developing and fixing processes. These waste films are a good source of silver that is reused for a variety of purposes including light-sensitive materials. Various studies have been carried out over a long period of time to recover the silver from these wastes, and most of them have been patented. The silver recovery methods from waste films can be classified as (a) burning the films directly, (b) oxidation of the metallic silver following electrolysis3−8, and (c) stripping the gelatin-silver layer using different solutions9−21. The second and third methods have been used more extensively for the recovery of

Recycling of exposed photographic X-ray films and recovery of silver using Bromelain

In the present work an environmentally friendly recycling system to peel away the base coat from the X-ray film by using an enzyme was developed. Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme extracted from the waste apex of pineapple was used for stripping the silver layer on the exposed film by hydrolysis of gelatin. The collected film can be reused for the manufacturing of X-ray film or other materials li...

Recovery of Silver from Waste X-ray Film by Alkaline Protease from Conidiobolus Coronatus

The waste X-ray/ photographic films contain 1.5 2 % (w/w) black metallic silver which is recovered and reused. Around 18-20% of the world's silver needs are supplied by recycling photographic waste. Since silver is linked to gelatin in the emulsion layer, it is possible to break the same and release the silver using proteolytic enzymes. Alkaline protease from Conidiobolus coronatus was investig...

Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles from Spent X-Ray Photographic Solution via Chemical Rreduction

Silver metal was recovered primarily from spent X-ray photographic solution using a horizontal tube furnace. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy analysis approved almost 95 percent purity of the recovered silver metal. In the next step, the synthesis of silver nanoparticles from the recovered silver metal proceeded by using chemical reduction method. The proposed method uses e...

Silver Solid Amalgam Electrodes as Sensors for Chemical Carcinogens

The applicability of differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and adsorptive stripping voltammetry (AdSV) at a non-toxic meniscus-modified silver solid amalgam electrode (m-AgSAE) for the determination of trace amounts of genotoxic substances was demonstrated on the determination of micromolar and submicromolar concentrations of 3-nitrofluoranthene using methanol 0.01 mol L NaOH (9:1) mixture as a ...
