چکیده
We report a patient with muscle weakness secondary to elevated serum sodium level. The cause of the elevated sodium level and the mechanism involved in producing muscle weakness are discussed.

Clofibrate-induced myopathy in patients with diabetes insipidus.
Clofibrate has been considered to be a relatively safe antidiuretic in the treatment of diabetes insipidus. However, we have recently had four cases of clofibrate-induced myopathy in patients with diabetes insipidus due to hypothalamic lesions. Physicians should therefore be aware of its occurrence and carefully monitor serum levels of CPK, GOT and GPT during the treatment of diabetes insipidus...
متن کاملHypodipsic hypernatremia with intact AVP response to non-osmotic stimuli induced by hypothalamic tumor: a case report.
Anatomical lesions of hypothalamic area associated with hypodipsic hypernatremia have been reported only rarely. We report here a case of hypodipsic hypernatremia induced by a hypothalamic lesion. A 25-yr-old man, who had been treated with radiation for hypothalamic tumor 5-yr before, was admitted for evaluation of hypernatremia and hypokalemia. He never felt thirst despite the elevated plasma ...
متن کاملMetabolic myopathies.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The metabolic myopathies result from inborn errors of metabolism affecting intracellular energy production due to defects in glycogen, lipid, adenine nucleotides, and mitochondrial metabolism. This article provides an overview of the most common metabolic myopathies. RECENT FINDINGS Our knowledge of metabolic myopathies has expanded rapidly in recent years, providing us with...
متن کاملMaternal protein restriction in mice causes adverse metabolic and hypothalamic effects in the F1 and F2 generations.
Maternal protein restriction causes metabolic alterations associated with hypothalamic dysfunction. Because the consequences of metabolic programming can be passed transgenerationally, the present study aimed to assess whether maternal protein restriction alters the expression of hypothalamic neuropeptides in offspring and to evaluate hormonal and metabolic changes in male offspring from the F1...
متن کاملStudyCapture myopathy in red deer and wild goat
This syndrome is a shock-like hyper metabolic myopathy triggered in susceptible animals by stress. Capture myopathy (C.M.) is a commonly occurring condition in mammals following trapping and transportation. In this case 12 to 24 hours after transportation of red deer (Cevus elaphus) and wild goats (Capra ibex) clinical signs such as: muscular tremor, ataxia, recumbency, hyperthermia, tachyca...
