Haemato-biochemical Changes and Peritoneal Fluid Cytology in Clinical Cases of Bovine Peritonitis

چکیده
Thirty two clinical cases were used to study changes in blood and peritoneal fluid of cattle suffering from peritonitis. Haematology revealed reversal of lymphocyte to neutrophil ratio, left shift and toxic changes in neutrophils, in majority of animals. Biochemical analysis revealed deranged liver and kidney function tests, increased glucose and lactate whereas albumin, chloride and calcium concentrations were decreased. Peritoneal fluid changes were altered consistency and colour; increased volume, specific gravity and total protein concentration; and presence of degenerated neutrophils, bacteria and gut contents. Neutrophils percentage in peritoneal fluid was higher than the reference range. From the present study, it was concluded that the prognosis of peritonitis cases has to be precisely assessed on the basis of both haematological and peritoneal fluid examination. On overall moderate to marked left shift and moderate to severe toxic cytological changes in neutrophils along with unfavourable peritoneal fluid changes were indicative of poor prognosis.

This study was designed to investigate the clinico-haemato-biochemical, rumen fl uid and peritoneal fl uid alteration in buffaloes with peritonitis. Buffaloes with peritonitis had anorexia, dehydration, abdominal distension, ruminal atony, pain, fever, reduced milk yield and loss of defecation. Pungent smelling peritoneal fl uid was yielded on abdominocentesis. Hemato-biochemical alterations re...

Objective: Guidelines have recommended that structured programs to support fungal peritonitis in cancer patients should be introduced. The role of fungi in causing peritonitis is rare, but fungal peritonitis has high morbidity and mortality. The abdominal fullness may be secondary to the fungi accumulation of peritoneal fluid. The isolation of fungi, particularly Candida from peritoneal fluid s...

In patients with acute abdominal pain, abdominal paracentesis and diagnostic peritoneal lavage often yield fluid samples for cytologic and biochemical evaluation. Cytology of the effusion from a patient with acute abdominal disease can be a crucial tool for the rapid diagnosis necessary for initiation of timely and appropriate therapy. Appropriate sample collection, handling, and preparation ar...

Background & Aim: The importance of exact diagnosis of diseases and prevention of complications caused by them is evident to everyone. One of the preventive methods is early detection of diseases. Cytologic examination is a useful and effective method among all. Recognition of early changes of cell morphology could perhaps help us diagnose diseases and manage them before clinical manifestat...
