Relation of Soil Temperature to Chlorosis of Gardenia!
نویسنده
چکیده
Normal leaves of gardenia are glossy and dark green in color. Immature leaves may be a lighter green, but they are glossy and quite green even as they open from the bud. During the winters of 1934-35 and 1935-36 a chlorotic condition of the leaves of gardenia growing under glass caused serious concern to Massachusetts growers. The malady in its early stages is characterized by a gradual decrease of green in the interveinal areas of the leaves. This decrease of green continues until a straw-yellow color has developed. The vein areas are the last to lose the green color. This type of chlorosis is first noted near the tips of shoots, i. e., newly developed and rapidly growing branches, and is followed by a simüar chlorotic development in the leaves of the longer terminal branches. In later stages growth slows down and new leaves, as they appear, are relatively small and lack green color. Frequently, brown areas develop at the tip of the leaf and also in the margin. Chlorosis is the visible effect of some cause, but it is by no means a criterion to establish a definite cause. Among the causes suggested for the chlorosis in question were the following: Deficiency in iron; soil reaction; unbalanced fertilizer ration; high concentration of calcium and sodium ions; nitrogen deficiency; lack of light; and mosaic diseases. A careful study of the environment and treatment of plants, some healthy and some chlorotic, indicated that none of these factors was involved. However, there did develop some evidence that a temperature factor was involved. Further investigation revealed that this temperature factor was localized in the soil.

Effect of soil oxygen deficit on iron nutrition of orange seedlings.
Iron deficiency chlorosis in plants is often associated with soil conditions that appear to restrict exchange of gases with the atmosphere, such as fine texture, lack of aggregation, excessive moisture, or discontinuity in the profile in the form of plowsole, hardpan, claypan, or stratified deposits. These conditions can cause CO2 to accumulate in the soil and, particularly in calcareous soils,...

Reducing iron solubility in calcareous soils causes iron chlorosis symptoms in the plant. In order to investigate the response of M. scutellata to direct and indirect iron deficiency, a factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with three replications. The experimental factors included three levels of lime (0, 4 and 8%) and five levels of Fe (0, 5 and 10 mg Fe Kg soil...
متن کاملClimate change Effects of Surface soil temperature profile in Ahwaz
In arid and semi-arid regions, soil surface warming is a considerable phenomenon causing a high thermal gradient which makes water flow intensely. The degree of soil temperature is effective on crop production, plant growth and soil microorganisms. In recent years, the ascending trend of temperature has been substantially noticed by researchers in the issues of pointwise climate change and at w...

In this research, we estimated soil shallow depths temperatures using regression methods (Linear and Polynomial). The soil temperatures at soil depths (5, 10, 20, 30, 50 and 100 cm) were correlated with meteorological parameters. For this purpose, temperature data of Hamedan station (in the period 1992-2005) were employed. Soil temperature data were measured on a daily basis at 3 PM, 9 PM and 3...

The effects of climate change can be released from the surface to the soil depth, thereby affecting soil thermal regime. Thermal energy in the soil plays a very important role in causing climate changes. In this study, for the assessment and detection of the climate changes, soil depths temperature, the measured data related to the daily air temperature at a height of 2 meters (screen) during...
