Gastro-bronchial fistula: Long term or very long term complications after bariatric surgery

چکیده
Different surgical techniques exist for the treatment of morbid obesity that can be classified as restrictive mal absorptive, or a combination of both. The duodenal switch (DS) is a mixed technique with mal absorptive predominance that has certain advantages over the restrictive techniques (weight loss is greater, patients show less signs of intolerance/vomiting, and hence, they have a better quality of life) and over purely mal absorptive techniques (less risk of malnutrition due to protein mal absorption, prevention of dumping syndrome or diarrhea) [1]. Among the complications associated with DS are cholelitiasis, protein and caloric malnutrition, calcium metabolism alterations, and gastric or esophageal fistulas.

Clinical Outcomes of Metabolic Surgery: Microvascular and Macrovascular Complications
Understanding of the long-term clinical outcomes associated with bariatric surgery has recently been advanced. Research related to the sequelae of diabetes-in particular, long-term microvascular and macrovascular complications-in patients who undergo weight-loss surgery is imperative to this pursuit. While numerous randomized control trials have assessed glucose control with bariatric surgery c...

IMPORTANCE Short-term studies show that bariatric surgery causes remission of diabetes. The long-term outcomes for remission and diabetes-related complications are not known. OBJECTIVES To determine the long-term diabetes remission rates and the cumulative incidence of microvascular and macrovascular diabetes complications after bariatric surgery. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS The Swedi...
متن کاملMajor postoperative complications are associated with impaired long-term survival after gastro-esophageal and pancreatic cancer surgery: a complete national cohort study
BACKGROUND Some studies have reported an association between complications and impaired long-term survival after cancer surgery. We aimed to investigate how major complications are associated with overall survival after gastro-esophageal and pancreatic cancer surgery in a complete national cohort. METHODS All esophageal-, gastric- and pancreatic resections performed for cancer in Norway betwe...
متن کاملTwo Lung Cancer Development-Related Genes, Forkhead Box M1 (FOXM1) and Apolipoprotein E (APOE), are overexpressed in Bronchial of Patients after Long-Term Exposure to Sulfur Mustard
Sulfur mustard (SM) is a strong alkylating and mutagenic compound that targets humanairway system. We considered the expression of Forkhead box M1 (FOXM1) and apolipoproteinE (APOE) genes, which are responsible for cell proliferation, differentiation, tumorigenesis, and increased risk of lung cancer, in the lung bronchial tissue of patients exposed to SM.After performing pulmonary functional tes...
متن کاملTreatment of gastric leaks with coated self-expanding stents after sleeve gastrectomy.
BACKGROUND Duodenal switch (DS) is one of the most effective techniques for the treatment of morbid obesity and its co-morbidities, with mortality rate <1%, but with 9.4% morbidity rates (6.5% due to leaks). In our experience, leaks of the staple-line after sleeve gastrectomy (SG) are the most frequent sites of fistula formation and conservative treatment usually takes a long time. We present o...
