چکیده

Many organizations today are require information from diverse information systems, and government efforts are moving towards a National Information Infrastructure for sharing information. However, the systems used by these organizations lack the capabilities to meaningfully translate information between semantically heterogeneous environments. Because the meaning of data acquired from a source environment is usually different from that needed or expected in the receiver's environment, the effectiveness of information exchange is dependent upon the system's capability for context interchange i.e., the representation, the exchange, the comparison, and the transformation of context knowledge. We show in this paper a practical means for developing context interchange capabilities in a client-server architecture, using semantic values (i.e., data and their context) as the unit of data exchange. The key components in this architecture are the context mediator server, whose job is to identify and construct the semantic values being sent, determine when the exchange is meaningful, and convert the semantic values to the form required by the client (i.e., receiver); and the data environment server, whose job is to assist in the location, access, development and maintenance of the context knowledge for all clients and servers.

Retrieving Content with Agents in Web Service E-learning Systems

In recent years, e-learning started to attract a lot of attention from researchers as well as practitioners. Many of the existing architectures of e-learning systems are mainly based on plain client-server or peer-topeer architectures and are therefore suffering from drawbacks like poor scalability or complicated interchange of content. In this paper, we present a distributed, service-oriented ...

Extensible markup language (XML) in health care: integration of structured reporting and decision support

The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a newly adopted Internet protocol for data interchange designed to bring the key features of the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML; ISO 8879:1986)--extensibility, complex structures, and validation--to the World Wide Web. In this paper, we describe an architecture that uses XML to mediate between disparate client-server systems for structured rep...

A Networked, Open Architecture Knowledge Management System

The development of knowledge-based systems involves the management of a diversity of knowledge sources, computing resources and system users, often geographically distributed. The knowledge acquisition, modeling and representation communities have developed a wide range of tools relevant to the development and management of large-scale knowledge-based systems, but the majority of these tools ru...

On balancing client - server load in intelligent web-based applications involving dialog

With the explosive growth of the Internet have come problems of increased server load and network latency. This means that systems that require interchange of data between server and client over the network can be slow to unusable (at peak times). We are investigating methods for developing distributed CBR systems which minimise the load on the servers and the network, thus increasing response ...
