Degradation Kinetics of Diclofenac in Water by Fenton’s Oxidation
نویسنده
چکیده
An extensively used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NAID) diclofenac (DCF) is reported to be present in the environment. Several adverse effects have been reported due to presence of DCF and hence it should be removed from the environment. Among several treatment methods, classic Fenton oxidation is found to be an effective process for the removal of organic contaminants. In the present study, the effect of initial DCF concentration and pseudo second order rate constants of DCF degradation are evaluated by Fenton oxidation process. Percent DCF reduction and percent Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) removal are measured as the objective parameters to be maximized. At the optimum conditions, for 31.43 x 10 mM of initial DCF concentration, 74.25 percent DCF reduction and 72.80 percent COD removal are observed in 240 minutes reaction time. The pseudo second order rate constants are 206.95 MS for 31.43 x 10 mM and 75.55 MS for 157.17 x 10 mM initial concentration of DCF. The Fenton oxidation process is the most effective in degradation of DCF in water.

Comparison of granular activated carbon bio-sorption and advanced oxidation processes in the treatment of leachate effluent
−Landfill leachate is a toxic effluent of a decomposing landfill that is produced when rainwater percolates through the landfill leaching out contaminants and pollutants. Untreated leachate is a potential source for the contamination of soil, surface and ground water. In this study, the treatment processes such as granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption/bio-sorption (batch), and advanced oxi...
متن کاملO-Anisidine Degradation by Fenton’s Reagent and Reaction Time Estimation
O-Anisidines (OAs) are extensively used as an intermediate for chemical reactions to produce various triphenylmethane and azo dyes, and also in manufacturing numerous pigments. They are found to be highly toxic and have carcinogenic properties, so it is imperative to treat OA solutions before disposal. In this study a promising approach to degrade OA solutions has been carried out using Fenton’...

متن کاملThe relevance of bisphenol A adsorption during Fenton’s oxidation
The aim of this research was to assess the efficiency of Fenton’s oxidation for degradation of endocrine disruptor bisphenol A (BPA) with emphasis on extent of accompanying adsorption. Adsorption on the waste sludge resulting from the Fenton’s oxidation could represent a significant impact on the final removal efficiency of BPA. Fenton’s oxidation was accomplished at two concentrations of BPA (...
