چکیده

The paper attempts to examine the relationships of the states of mind with brain activity with regards to reports and empiri cal studies available in the subject literature. Questions were asked about the processes that occur in the brain and the cognition to produce basic states of mind, which were termed: state of readiness attention (conscious attention), state of attention engagement (automated attention, unconscious attention) and alpha state (no attention, relax). 73 student athletes involved in swimming, fencing, track and field, taekwondo, and judo, took part in the experiment with five people representing each sport. They were 18 to 25 years of age and showed similar sports skill level (national level) and trained at the same club (5 to 7 years). Before and after 20 neurofeedback-EEG training sessions, all the subjects performed EEG recordings. Eighteen athletes were included in the experimental group, subjected for 7 months to relaxation training sessions. A twenty-week neurofeedback-EEG training course aimed at the reinforcement of the amplitude of the SMR and beta 1 bands while reducing the amplitude of the theta and beta 2 bands in athletes causes changes in brain activity at rest and, consequently, in the states of mind. The amplitude of the alpha band changed after relaxation training sessions. In the empirical studies described ones based on scientific achievements and focused on the problem of human mind, attempts were made to find correlations between subjective states of mind and objective brain activity.

Psychological, Neurophysiological, and Mental Factors Associated With Gamma-Enhancing Neurofeedback Success

Introduction: Regarding the neurofeedback training process, previous studies indicate that 10%-50% of subjects cannot gain control over their brain activity even after repeated training sessions. This study is conducted to overcome this problem by investigating inter-individual differences in neurofeedback learning to propose some predictors for the trainability of subjects. Methods: Eight hea...

Source-space EEG neurofeedback links subjective experience with brain activity during effortless awareness meditation

BACKGROUND Meditation is increasingly showing beneficial effects for psychiatric disorders. However, learning to meditate is not straightforward as there are no easily discernible outward signs of performance and thus no direct feedback is possible. As meditation has been found to correlate with posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) activity, we tested whether source-space EEG neurofeedback from the...

Beware: Recruitment of Muscle Activity by the EEG-Neurofeedback Trainings of High Frequencies

EEG-neurofeedback (NFB) became a very popular method aimed at improving cognitive and behavioral performance. However, the EMG frequency spectrum overlies the higher EEG oscillations and the NFB trainings focusing on these frequencies is hindered by the problem of EMG load in the information fed back to the subjects. In such a complex signal, it is highly probable that the most controllable com...

‘My Virtual Dream’: Collective Neurofeedback in an Immersive Art Environment

While human brains are specialized for complex and variable real world tasks, most neuroscience studies reduce environmental complexity, which limits the range of behaviours that can be explored. Motivated to overcome this limitation, we conducted a large-scale experiment with electroencephalography (EEG) based brain-computer interface (BCI) technology as part of an immersive multi-media scienc...

Changes of the brain’s bioelectrical activity in cognition, consciousness, and some mental disorders

Background: An electroencephalogram (EEG) is an accepted method in neurophysiology with a wide application. Different types of brain rhythms indicate that simultaneous activity of the brain cortex neurons depend on the person’s mental state. Method: we have focus on reviewing the existing literature pertaining to changes of the brain’s bioelectrical activity that recorded from the ...
