Basics of Probabilistic Analysis for the APC-Lecture

چکیده

I assume that you have some preknowledge in probability theory, but let us recapitulate the small subset of it which we will need for our purposes. We will employ very concrete probability theory (as opposed to abstract probability theory); we simply use it as a tool. When writing this I borrowed much from Chapter 8 in the book Concrete Mathematics, A Foundation for Computer Science by Ronald L. Graham, Donald E. Knuth and Oren Patashnik (Addison-Wesley (1989)). A book to be recommended not only for that chapter. We restrict ourselves to discrete probability spaces, and we will omit `discrete' from now on. Roughly speaking, such a probability space consists of a (possibly innite) set of things that can happen, each of which gets assigned a probability that it happens. This mapping is called probability distribution, since it distributes the value 1 among the things that can happen.

Probabilistic Aspects of Computer Science: Markovian Models

These lecture notes present four Markovian models: discrete time Markov chains (DTMC), continous time Markov chains (CTMC), Markov decision processes (MDP) and probabilistic automata (PA). It is addressed for master students and tries as most as possible to be self-contained. However the basics of discrete probability (and additionally the basics of measure and integration for the study of CTMC...

Random Graphs and the Probabilistic Method

These notes accompany a lecture given in the summer of 2006 at the Center for Combinatorics at Nankai University. They are provided as a reference (and especially bibliography) for students new to the probabilistic method. The goal in these notes is twofold. First we wish to demonstrate the basics of the probabilistic method, covering both the expectation and second moment applications. Second,...

Two Steps Methylation Specific PCR for Assessment of APC Promoter Methylation in Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Gastric Cancer (GC) is the second most common cancer in the world and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Methylation of promoter CpG islands (CGIs) belonging to tumor suppressor genes causes transcriptional silencing of their corresponding genes leading to carcinogenesis and other disorders. Adenomatous Polyposis Coli (APC) a tumor suppressor gene is inactivated by methylation of prom...

Probabilistic analysis of stability of chain pillars in Tabas coal mine in Iran using Monte Carlo simulation

Performing a probabilistic study rather than a determinist one is a relatively easy way to quantify the uncertainty in an engineering design. Due to the complexity and poor accuracy of the statistical moment methods, the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) method is wildly used in an engineering design. In this work, an MCS-based reliability analysis was carried out for the stability of the chain pill...

Math 55b Lecture Notes

This is Harvard College’s famous Math 55b, instructed by Dennis Gaitsgory. The formal name for this class is “Honors Real and Complex Analysis” but it generally goes by simply “Math 55b”. It is an accelerated one-semester class covering the basics of analysis, primarily real but also some complex analysis. The permanent URL is http://web.evanchen.cc/~evanchen/coursework. html, along with all my...
