چکیده

We report an experimental study of a planar organic-inorganic microcavity consisting of a porous silicon distributed Bragg reflector, a single layer of acridina orange as active material and a top aluminum reflector. By tuning the cavity resonance energy around the maximum of the organic material photoluminescence, we found an intense emission and a spectral narrowing of the emission band to about 45 meV. The angle-resolved photoluminescence spectra enable us to determine the microcavity dispersion curve. The very good agreement with the theoretical dispersion provides a precise determination of the refractive index of the organic material. @S0003-6951~98!01120-6#

Enhancement of the Spontaneous Emission Rates in All Porous Silicon Optical Microcavities

The emission properties of a porous silicon layer placed in an optical microcavity is investigated by photoluminescence and time resolved photoluminescence measurements. The microcavity is formed by an all porous silicon Fabry-Perot filter made by two distributed Bragg reflectors separated by a h or h/2 porous silicon layer. Our main findings are that the spontaneous emission spectrum is drasti...

Lasing from InGaP quantum dots in a spin-coated flexible microcavity.

We report the realization of a mechanically flexible microcavity laser emitting at 657 nm using spin coating. These optically pumped vertical cavity surface emitting lasers use InGaP colloidal quantum dots as the active medium and alternating polymer layers of different refractive indices as the Bragg mirrors. Results of photoluminescence measurements indicating enhancement in spontaneous emiss...

Photoluminescence Analysis of a 16.8% Efficient 18-um Silicon Solar Cell

This paper presents the characterization and analysis of a 16.8%-efficient 18 um silicon solar cell on steel substrate. Photoluminescence (PL) is used to monitor the solar cell’s fabrication step by step, and a correlation between PL intensity and implied open circuit voltage is established. PL images yield spatially resolved maps of key electrical parameters such as dark reverse saturation cur...

Optically tunable microcavity in a planar photonic crystal silicon waveguide buried in oxide.

We present all-optical tuning and switching of a microcavity inside a two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide. The photonic crystal structure is fabricated in silicon-on-insulator using complementary metal-oxide semiconductor processing techniques based on deep ultraviolet lithography and is completely buried in a silicon dioxide cladding that provides protection from the environment. By foc...

Converting Wannier into Frenkel excitons in an inorganic/organic hybrid semiconductor nanostructure.

Electronic coupling between Wannier and Frenkel excitons in an inorganic/organic semiconductor hybrid structure is experimentally observed. Time-resolved photoluminescence and excitation spectroscopy directly demonstrate that electronic excitation energy can be transferred with an efficiency of up to 50% from an inorganic ZnO quantum well to an organic [2,2-p-phenylenebis-(5-phenyloxazol), alph...
