چکیده

Labeled Graph Matching (LGM) has been shown successful in numerous object vision tasks. This method is the basis for arguably the best face recognition system in the world. We present an algorithm for visual pattern recognition that is an extension of LGM (`LGM'). We compare the performance of LGM and LGM algorithms with a state of the art statistical method based on Mutual Information Maximization (MIM). We present an adaptation of the MIM method for multi-dimensional Gabor wavelet features. The three pattern recognition methods were evaluated on an object detection task, using a set of stimuli on which none of the methods had been tested previously. The results indicate that while the performance of the MIM method operating upon Gabor wavelets is superior to the same method operating on pixels and to LGM, it is surpassed by LGM. LGM offers a signi®cant improvement in performance over LGM without losing LGM's virtues of simplicity, biological plausibility, and a computational cost that is 2±3 orders of magnitude lower than that of the MIM algorithm. q 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. Graph matching vs mutual information maximization for object detection

Labeled Graph Matching (LGM) has been shown successful in numerous object vision tasks. This method is the basis for arguably the best face recognition system in the world. We present an algorithm for visual pattern recognition that is an extension of LGM ('LGM+'). We compare the performance of LGM and LGM+ algorithms with a state of the art statistical method based on Mutual Information Maximi...

This article gives an overview of the different functional brain imaging methods, the kinds of questions these methods try to address and some of the questions associated with functional neuroimaging data for which neural modeling must be employed to provide reasonable answers. q 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.

Neural models of motion integration and segmentation

A neural model is developed of how motion integration and segmentation processes compute global motion percepts. Figure-ground properties, such as occlusion, influence which motion signals determine the percept. For visible apertures, a line's extrinsic terminators do not specify true line motion. For invisible apertures, a line's intrinsic terminators create veridical feature tracking signals,...

Assessing interactions among neuronal systems using functional neuroimaging

We show that new methods for measuring effective connectivity allow us to characterise the interactions between brain regions that underlie the complex interactions among different processing stages of functional architectures.

It is demonstrated that rotational invariance and reflection symmetry of image classifiers lead to a reduction in the number of free parameters in the classifier. When used in adaptive detectors, e.g. neural networks, this may be used to decrease the number of training samples necessary to learn a given classification task, or to improve generalization of the neural network. Notably, the symmet...
