Finite-element model for the mechanical behavior of the left ventricle. Prediction of deformation in the potassium-arrested rat heart.

چکیده
A finite-element model is used to analyze the mechanical behavior of the left ventricle. The ventricle is treated as a heterogeneous, linearly elastic, thickwalled solid of revolution. The inner third of the ventricular wall is assumed to be transversely isotropic with a longitudinal Young's modulus, transverse modulus, and shear modulus of 60 g/cm, 30 g/cm, and 15.5 g/cm, respectively. In the outer two-thirds of the ventricular wall the myocardium is assumed to be isotropic with a Young's modulus of 60 g/cm. Poison's ratio is assumed to be equal to 0.45 throughout the ventricular wall. The valvular ring at the base of the ventricle is simulated by a homogeneous layer cf collagen. The model appears to predict gross free-wall deformation in the left ventricle of the potassium-arrested rat heart fixed in situ. The presence of a relatively compliant transversely isotropic region near the endocardial surface results in significantly lower axial and circumferential stresses in this region than are present in a homogeneous, isotropic model. The presence of a simulated valvular ring results in a concentration of relatively large stresses near the base of the ventricle.

A finite element model for the diastolic anine left vcntricle based on large deformation theory has been developed. The myecardial stress-strain relation determined by the diastoric pressure-yolume relation was used in this study, The ventricle was assumed as a homogeneous, isotropic, thick-walled solid of revolution with variable thickness. The predicted shapes based on the model were in close...

متن کاملFinite Element Modeling of Strain Rate and Grain Size Dependency in Nanocrystalline Materials
Nanocrystalline materials show a higher strain-rate sensitivity in contrast to the conventional coarse-grained materials and a different grain size dependency. To explain these phenomenon, a finite element model is constructed that considers both grain interior and grain boundary deformation of nanocrystalline materials. The model consist of several crystalline cores with different orientations...

One of the surface defects that arise in sheet metal working is when the part removes from the die. Since there are no external forces to make this defect, the origin of such fail is known as residual stress. Residual stress can develop in sheet metal forming due to non uniform deformation. In this paper, the workpiece is carbon steel with different volume fractions and arrangement of ferrite ...
