Evaluating the Smoke Hazard from Fires in Large Spaces
نویسنده
چکیده
Current codes in many countries require that the smoke layer be maintained a particular distance above the highest walking surface in an atrium. The smoke exhaust capacity to accomplish the required performance can be extraordinary, especially in a tall atrium with the upper floors open to the atrium. The effect of exposure to smoke is a function of the magnitude of the smoke signature, e.g. concentration of gas species, visibility reduction and temperature, and the exposure duration. Generally, the first smoke layer property that reaches a critical level is a reduction in visibility. The visibility can be reduced below 1 m even though the temperature rise and generation of toxic gases are relatively modest. However, with a smoke exhaust rate of 200 kgs, the hazard provided due to temperature rise and CO concentration in atria is modest for a wide range of fuels.

Simulation of Smoke Emission from Fires in High-Rise Buildings Using the 3D Model Generated from 2-Dimensional Cadastral Data
Having a 3-Dimensional model of high-rise buildings can be used in disaster management such as fire cases to reduce casualties. The fundamental dilemma in 3D building modeling is the unavailability of suitable data sources. However, available cadastral 2D maps could be used as low-cost and attainable resources for 3D building modeling. Smoke will be a great threat to people's health during a f...

Exposure to the products of combustion, both particulate smoke and gaseous, rather than to the fire itself, is the most significant cause of injury and death in fires. The exposure time of individuals in a smoke environment depends upon their speed of movement and the direction they choose to travel, nominally towards a safe exit. Consequently in the fire safe design of modern buildings, the pr...
متن کاملAn Automatic Detection of the Fire Smoke Through Multispectral Images
One of the consequences of a fire is smoke. Occasionally, monitoring and detection of this smoke can be a solution to prevent occurrence or spreading a fire. On the other hand, due to the destructive effects of the smoke spreading on human health, measures can be taken to improve the level of health services by zoning and monitoring its expansion process. In this paper, an automated method is p...

Abstract Fire in natural resources is one of the crises that causes irreparable damage to ecosystems and the environment every year. The purpose of this research is to attempt to study areas of risk aversion and to prepare a map of forest fire hazard area by integrating topographic data and other additional information from a GIS system for Golestan province. In order to carry out this resear...

The Iowa City Landfill in eastern Iowa, United States, experienced a fire lasting 18 days in 2012, in which a drainage layer of over 1 million shredded tires burned, generating smoke that impacted the surrounding metropolitan area of 130,000 people. This emergency required air monitoring, risk assessment, dispersion modeling, and public notification. This paper quantifies the impact of the fire...
