MWR and DORIS – Supporting Envisat’s Radar Altimetry Mission
نویسنده
چکیده
MWR The mission The Microwave Radiometer (MWR) is a twochannel passive radiometer operating at 23.8 and 36.5 GHz based on the Dicke principle. By receiving and analysing the Earth-generated and Earth-reflected radiation at these two frequencies, the instrument will measure the amount of water vapour and liquid water in the atmosphere, within a 20 km-diameter field of view immediately beneath Envisat’s track. This information will provide the tropospheric path correction for the Radar Altimeter. The MWR measurements can also be used for the determination of surface emissivity and soil moisture over land, and in support of studies on surface energy budget and atmospheric and ice characterisation.

Sensitivity Analysis of Brown Model Waveform in Radar Altimetry
In satellite altimetry (radar altimetry), the altimeter emits a pulse, with known power, to the earth surface and receives it back continuously to determine of the sea surface height. The time series of the mean returned power is recorded individually at satellite as the so-called waveform. Analytical model for the waveform is first introduced by Brown, which consists of six parameters: signif...
متن کاملBasic Radar Altimetry Toolbox & Tutorial
The Basic Radar Altimetry Toolbox is a collection of tools, tutorials and documents designed to facilitate the use of radar altimetry data. It is able to read most distributed radar altimetry data, from ERS-1 & 2, Topex/Poseidon, Geosat Follow-on, Jason-1 and 2, Envisat, and the future Cryosat mission, to perform some processing, data editing and statistic, and to visualise the results. As part...
متن کاملGPD+ Wet Tropospheric Corrections for CryoSat-2 and GFO Altimetry Missions
Due to its large space-time variability, the wet tropospheric correction (WTC) is still considered a significant error source in satellite altimetry. This paper presents the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) derived Path Delay Plus (GPD+), the most recent algorithm developed at the University of Porto to retrieve improved WTC for radar altimeter missions. The GPD+ are WTC estimated by ...
متن کاملCryoSat-2 Altimetry Applications over Rivers and Lakes
Monitoring the variation of rivers and lakes is of great importance. Satellite radar altimetry is a promising technology to do this on a regional to global scale. Satellite radar altimetry data has been used successfully to observe water levels in lakes and (large) rivers, and has also been combined with hydrologic/hydrodynamic models. Except CryoSat-2, all radar altimetry missions have been op...
متن کاملThe SWOT (Surface Water and Ocean Topography) Mission: Spaceborne Radar Interferometry for Oceanographic and Hydrological Applications
Satellite altimetry has revolutionized the study of the global oceans for the past two decades. Precision altimetry missions like TOPEX/Poseidon, Jason-1, and OSTM/Jason 2, complemented by other missions like ERS 1 and 2, ENVISAT, and GFO, have provided unprecedented observations of the ocean surface topography at scales larger than about 200 km and made significant advances in our understandi...
