International trends in genetic evaluation of functional traits in dairy cattle
نویسندگان
چکیده
unctional traits have become increasingly important in the dairy cattle industry due to ncreased costs of production relative to milk prices. This has instigated recording of unctional traits to be used for both management and breeding purposes. Although economic alues differ between countries, the emphasis for functional relative to production traits have ncreased throughout the western world during past decades. The Scandinavian countries ave traditionally recorded and performed genetic evaluation for a broad range of functional raits, but in recent years, many other countries have also implemented genetic evaluation for dder health, fertility, longevity and calving traits. International genetic evaluations are vailable or being investigated for these traits due to the increased trait availability and emand for such services. Across country genetic correlations are high for most trait groups, ut further trait harmonisations could lead to better international evaluations. Modern and ore cost effective recording devices give new opportunities of directly or indirectly easuring functional traits, especially in nucleus herd selection schemes, although it is a hallenge to maintain emphasis on low heritability traits in such systems. Increasingly ophisticated genetic test-day models also provide useful information for management urposes. Locomotion, feed efficiency and metabolic stress measures are important traits hat are currently not widely considered for genetic evaluation, but may be so in future.

Genetic and Phenotypic Trends of Productive and Reproductive Traits in Iranian Holstein Dairy Cattle of Isfahan Province
Productive and reproductive traits have great importance in international dairy cattle breeding objectives. Production, reproduction (days open and calving interval) and pedigree data of Iranian Holstein dairy cattles were collected between 2002 and 2012 from 47 herds in Isfahan province. The data set consisted of 30179 records from 18837 registered IranianHolstein dairy cattles. Single trait r...

The present investigation aimed to conduct a genetic study of dairy cattle and buffalo bulls based on economic traits and their phenotypic correlation. The means of various economic traits in both the species are presented. Cattle bulls reported a better libido score, Flehmen response, requirement of mounting stimulus and semen volume, conception rate and expected predicted difference for milk ...
متن کاملPresent and future uses of selection index methodology in dairy cattle.
Selection indexes have been extensively applied in the estimation of breeding value of dairy cattle for single traits as well as for combinations of traits for selection purposes. Milestones in methodology, such as multiple-trait evaluation procedures by BLUP, (co)variance component estimation, nonlinear models, discounted gene flow, dynamic programming, and international sire evaluations, toge...
متن کاملEstimates of Repeatability and Heritability of Productive Trait in Holstein Dairy Cattle
Dairy cattle breeding programs have been based in the selection for traits related to milk production. In this research a data set of 63 herds of East Azerbaijan province Holstein cattle, collected during 2002-2013 by the Iranian Animal Breeding Center was used to estimate the repeatability and heritability of three traits of economic importance. Genetic parameters for first three lactations of...

Excellent reproductive performance in both males and females is fundamental to profitable dairy and beef production systems. In this review we undertook a meta-analysis of genetic parameters for female reproductive performance across 55 dairy studies or populations and 12 beef studies or populations as well as across 28 different studies or populations for male reproductive performance. A pleth...
