Response to Comments by Butterworth and Punt in SC/46/AS2 on the Bayesian Synthesis Approach

چکیده
In this paper we address some of the concerns raised by Butterworth and Punt (1994) in SC/46/AS2 regarding the Bayesian synthesis method. We argue that the sensitivity of the Bayesian synthesis approach is similar to that of alternative methods, and that the ease with which sensitivity can be detected is one of the advantages of the method. We also note that some of the examples in SC/46/AS2 use applications of the Bayesian synthesis framework which are potentially misleading. Speciically, SC/46/AS2 examines a simpliied version of the Bayesian synthesis method, and the sensitivity displayed in the results of SC/46/AS2 is partially an artifact of this sim-pliication. This simpliication removes the very features from the Bayesian synthesis method which help it avoid problems involving sensitivity, estimation bias and precision. We address further concerns raised in SC/46/AS2 regarding the use of information about various biological parameters.

The Effect of Bayesian Reasoning Training on the Results of Clinical Reasoning Tests of Interns
Introduction: Clinical reasoning includes a range of thinking about clinical medicine at all stages of patient evaluation. Bayesian theory can be used to refute or confirm differential diagnoses in the clinical reasoning process. In this way, by learning the basic mathematical language of probability in medicine, we can change our beliefs according to new evidence. The aim of this study is to i...

Raftery, Givens and Zeh (1994) have estimated replacement yield for bowhead whales using a Bayesian synthesis framework which allows inference based on the structure of a population dynamics model (PDM) (an improved version of the Leslie matrix model of Breiwick, Eberhardt and Braham, 1984) and independent evidence and uncertainty about model inputs and outputs. Givens, Zeh, and Raftery (1993) ...

The use of renewable energy reduces environmental pollution and leads to achievement of sustainable development. The current study investigates the dynamic interrelationship between sustainable development, renewable and non-renewable energies and environment nexus by applying Bayesian vector autoregression (BVAR) and impulse response functions in Iran with an annual data frequency for the time...
متن کاملThe Effect of Monetary Shocks on Disaggregated Prices in a Data Rich Environment: a Bayesian FAVAR Approach
Price stability has been the foremost task of monetary policy. The information relating to the response of prices to monetary policy shocks is essential for conducting monetary policy in general and for inflation targeting of central banks in particular. Most of the published empirical studies analyze the response of an aggregate price index like CPI or a consumption deflator and their r...
متن کاملBayesian Sample size Determination for Longitudinal Studies with Continuous Response using Marginal Models
Introduction Longitudinal study designs are common in a lot of scientific researches, especially in medical, social and economic sciences. The reason is that longitudinal studies allow researchers to measure changes of each individual over time and often have higher statistical power than cross-sectional studies. Choosing an appropriate sample size is a crucial step in a successful study. A st...
