چکیده
This paper examines the problem of estimating surjiace shape from texture in situations in which there are multiple textures present due to texture discontinuities, occlusion, and pseudo-trarzspareizcy (fbr example looking through a picket fence ut u textured s u @ ~ e ) . Previous shupe-ji-om-texture methods that use changes in the spatial jrequency representution ofneighboring image patches u m m e that only a single texture is present in each of the patches. We extend these upproaches to situations in which multiple textures muy be present. We provide a theoretical analysis ofthe multiple texture problem and the effect of texture discontinuities, occlusion, etc. on the spatial .frequency representution. We ulso present un algorithm, using robust mixture models, jijr recovering multiple surjace shapes from occluded texturex The methodpeforms well on real and synthetic inzages with results which ure comparable to that of shupefiom texture with only one texture.

Robust Estimation of Multiple Surface Shapes from Occluded Textures
This paper examines the problem of estimating surface shape from texture in situations in which there are multiple textures present due to texture discontinuities, occlusion, and pseudo-transparency (for example looking through a picket fence at a textured surface). Previous shape-from-texture methods that use changes in the spatial frequencyrepresentation of neighboring image patches assume th...
متن کاملReduction of Rank-Reduced Orientation-from-Color Problem with Many Unknown Lights to Two-Image Known - Computer Vision, 1995. Proceedings., International Symposium on
How does shape-from-shading proceed when two or more different1 colored light sources are present? For a uniformly co&ied Lambertian surface illuminated by a collection of oint or extended light sources or interreflections, wit[ unknown directions and strengths, illumination varies spectrally with orientation from the surface. If light varies enou h in color and direction, then surface orientat...

The idea of Fixation introduced a direct method for general recovery of shape and motion from images without using either feature correspondence or optical flow [1,2]. There are some parameters which have important effects on the performance of fixation method. However, the theory of fixation does not say anything about the autonomous and correct choice of those parameters. This paper presents ...
متن کاملNormal Vector Voting: Crease Detection and Curvature Estimation on Large, Noisy Meshes
This paper describes a robust method for crease detection and curvature estimation on large, noisy triangle meshes. We assume that these meshes are approximations of piecewise-smooth surfaces derived from range or medical imaging systems and thus may exhibit measurement or even registration noise. The proposed algorithm, which we call normal vector voting, uses an ensemble of triangles in the g...
متن کاملMarkers Elucidated and Applied in Local 3-Space - Computer Vision, 1995. Proceedings., International Symposium on
The term “marker” as used in the active vision and reactive planning literature is poorly defined. The underspec$cation of the marker concept limits the usefulness of this important tool for building perception and action systems for autonomous robots. This paper refnes the concept of markers, both at the level of their role in perception-action system, and the the level of the representations ...
