Call Admission Control for Mobile Multimedia Wireless Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Call Admission Control (CAC) policies in mobile cellular wireless networks give priority to handoff requests over new call requests. In the guard channel policy, an integer number of channels are reserved for handoff calls, while the fractional guard channel policy rejects new calls with a probability that varies with the current channel occupancy. The effect of reservations on new and handoff call blocking probabilities has previously been studied for a single service class only. This paper presents reservation policies for a multimedia system with two classes of service having different bandwidth requirements. The results show that a product-form solution can also be used for a fractional guard channel handoff policy using the same assumptions as used for a single class. This analytical solution is validated by means of simulations. Numerical optimization of the policies is also performed.

متن کاملQoS Provisioning in Wireless/Mobile Multimedia Networks Using an Adaptive Framework
Recently there is a growing interest in the adaptive multimedia networking where the bandwidth of an ongoing multimedia call can be dynamically adjusted. In the wireless/mobile multimedia networks using the adaptive framework, the existing QoS provisioning focused on the call blocking probability and the forced termination probability should be modified. We, therefore, redefine a QoS parameter ...

| There is a growing interest in providing multi-media services in mobile/wireless communication networks. Call admission control (CAC) is a key factor in supporting successfully these services. In this paper, we propose a distributed call admission control policy which is optimal from the standpoint of service providers because it maximizes their revenue. A semi-Markov decision process is empl...
متن کاملCall Admission Control for Prioritized Adaptive Multimedia Services in Wireless/Mobile Networks
Recently, the scarce wireless bandwidth motivated adaptive multimedia services where the bandwidth of an ongoing call can be dynamically adjusted. We consider multiple classes of adaptive multimedia services and assume the prioritization among classes in the bandwidth adaptation. A threshold-type call admission control algorithm is proposed here and product-form solution is derived. Also, we fo...
