چکیده

See related article, p xxx As I begin my second, 5-year term in this interesting, challenging, and rewarding position, it is hard to believe that I am just beyond the halfway point in my tenure as the Editorin-Chief of Stroke. Feedback from many sources, including our readers, contributors, and members of the various masthead groups, has been almost uniformly positive about the content and direction of Stroke, the pre-eminent journal in the cerebrovascular field. As all of you are aware, Stroke has added many features over the past 5 years and has increased substantially the rapidity of the review process and the appearance of accepted articles online and in print. Accomplishing these goals has required considerable efforts from our reviewers, masthead group members, and, most importantly, the Associate Editors, Vice Editor, and full-time office staff. I thank all of you for your diligence, hard work, and willingness to help when called upon. At the halfway point, I decided to initiate significant turnover among our Editorial Board members, Section Editors, Assistant Editors, and Consulting Editors. The outgoing Editorial Board members include Rustam Al-Shahi Salman, Devin Brown, Cheryl Bushnell, Antonio Carolei, Marc Chimowitz, Susan Fagan, Frank Faraci, Franz Fazekas, Nicole Gonzales, Philip Gorelick, Roman Haberl, Domenico Inzitari, Moira Kapral, Walter Kernan, James Meschia, Lewis Morgenstern, Michael Moskowitz, Stefan Schwab, Brian Silver, Thorsten Steiner, Kenneth Wagner, Nils Wahlgren, and John Zhang. I would like to thank them for their dedicated service to Stroke during their tenure on the Editorial Board. I would also like to thank Hans-Christoph Diener, Anthony Furlan, and Costantino Iadecola for their service as Consulting Editors and Oh Young Bang, Steven Cramer, Martin Dichgans, Malcolm Macleod, Bruce Ovbiagele, and Peter Ringleb for their service as Assistant Editors. Armin Grau, Wolf-Dieter Heiss, Heinrich Mattle, Sean Savitz, and Barbara Vickrey are stepping down as Section Editors, and I thank them for their service. Eng Lo is stepping down as an Associate Editor after 10 years of outstanding service in that capacity and will be ably replaced by Jaroslaw Aronowski. I would like to welcome our new Consulting Editors, Harold Adams, Greg Albers, and Eng Lo and our new Assistant Editors, Seemant Chaturvedi, Christopher Chen, Giuseppe Lanzino, Liping Liu, Terence Quinn, and Sean Savitz. Our new Section Editors include Derrick Bennett, Julie Bernhardt, Martin Dichgans, Sepidah Amin-Hanjani, Jean-Marc Olivot, Gustavo Saposnik, Daniel Strbian, and Daniel Woo. A large number of additions have been made to Editorial Board, including Opeolu Adeoye, Grethe Andersen, Juan F. Arenillas, Heinrich Audebert, Yannick Béjot, Eivind Berge, Gregory Bix, Johannes Boltze, Heather Shaw Bonilha, Sunghee Cho, Bruce H. Dobkin, Nima Etminan, Heather Fullerton, Claire L. Gibson, Rebecca Gottesman, Robert Hart, Nneka Ifejika, Lori Jordan, Andrew Lee, Gregory Y.H. Lip, Xinfeng Liu, J Mocco, MingMing Ning, Anthony Rudd, Simona Sacco, Lauren H. Sansing, Georgios Tsivgoulis, Shinichiro Uchiyama, Raghu Vemuganti, Denis Vivien, Joshua Z. Willey, and Bernard Yan. Some of the new Editorial Board members held prior positions in other masthead groups, but most are de novo additions with an emphasis on adding board members with diverse backgrounds and interests. I look forward to working with all the people who will constitute our masthead groups. Stroke is dependent on them for the expeditious review of articles and for providing input about the future direction of the journal. This is a truly exciting time in the stroke field with the recent demonstration of the efficacy of endovascular therapy in selected patients with acute ischemic stroke, the rapid advancement in our ability to image and characterize stroke patients, the development of better prevention strategies, and a substantial number of promising recovery strategies that are being tested in increasingly larger and more complex clinical trials. My goal is to maintain and enhance Stroke as a disseminator of knowledge about advances in the cerebrovascular field that are relevant to the diverse readership who avail themselves of the content in ever-increasing numbers, >16 million electronic accesses in 2014. I look forward to serving the cerebrovascular community in whatever manner I can over the next 5 years and will strive to build upon the success and innovations that have been achieved over the past 5 years with the help and input of our readers, contributors, and masthead members.

Half-Century Journey from Synthetic Organic Chemistry to Mathematical Stereochemistry through Chemoinformatics

My half-century journey started from synthetic organic chemistry. During the first stage of my journey, my interest in stereochemistry was initiated through the investigation on the participation of steric effects in reactive intermediates, cylophanes, strained heterocycles, and organic compounds for photography. In chemoinformatics as the next stage of the journey, I proposed the concept of im...
