Interactive Okapi at TREC-6

چکیده
A full description of the experimental system and conditions is given in Appendices A and B. Searchers lled in three types of questionnaires. The pre-session questionnaire established the user's experience and pro le. In the post search questionnaires, searchers were asked questions regarding the topic, the search and the system used after undertaking each individual search. Finally in the post-session questionnaire, subjects were asked to provide an overview of the experiment. In addition to the questionnaires, searchers noted on a worksheet the di erent aspects of the topics they encountered whilst they undertook each search.

Interactive Okapi at Sheffield - TREC-8
The focus of the study was to examine searching behaviour in relation to the three experimental variables, i.e. searcher, system and topic characteristics. Twenty-four subjects searched the six test topics on two versions of the Okapi system, one with relevance feedback and one without. A combination of data collection methods was used including observations, verbal protocols, transaction logs,...
متن کاملOkapi at TREC-5
City submitted two runs each for the automatic ad hoc, very large collection track, automatic routing and Chinese track; and took part in the interactive and ltering tracks. There were no very signi cant new developments; the same Okapi-style weighting as in TREC{3 and TREC{4 was used this time round, although there were attempts, in the ad hoc and more notably in the Chinese experiments, to ex...
متن کاملSheffield Interactive Experiment at TREC-9
The paper reports on the experiment conducted by the University of Sheffield in the Interactive Track of TREC-9 based on the Okapi probabilistic ranking system. A failure analysis of results was undertaken to correlate search outcomes with query characteristics. A detailed comparison of Sheffield results with the aggregate for the track reveals that the time element, topic type, and searcher ch...
متن کاملMicrosoft Cambridge at TREC 13: Web and Hard Tracks
All our submissions from the Microsoft Research Cambridge (MSRC) team this year continue to explore issues in IR from a perspective very close to that of the original Okapi team, working first at City University of London, and then at MSRC. A summary of the contributions by the team, from TRECs 1 to 7 is presented in [3]. In this work, weighting schemes for ad-hoc retrieval were developed, insp...
متن کاملExperimentation as a way of life: Okapi at TREC
The Okapi system has been used in a series of experiments on the TREC collections, investigating probabilistic models, relevance feedback and query expansion, and interaction issues. The TREC-6 ad hoc task was used to test an application of a new relevance weighting formula, which takes account of documents judged nonrelevant. The application was to a form of blind feedback (using the top-ranke...
متن کاملUCLA-Okapi at TREC-2: Query Expansion Experiments
This is the rst participation of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of California at Los Angeles in the TREC Conference. For TREC{2, Category B, UCLA used a version of the Okapi text retrieval system that was made available to UCLA by City University, London, UK. OKAPI has been described in TREC1 (Robertson, Walker, Hancock-Beaulieu, Gull & Lau, 1993a) as well as...
