چکیده
Extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) is a cardinal feature of primary myelofibrosis (PMF). The sites most frequently involved by EMH in PMF are the liver and spleen, leading to organ enlargement; however, many other organs have also been affected by EMH. Non-hepatosplenic EMH (NHS-EMH) has been reported in a multitude of tissues and organs, presenting as either an incidental finding or with symptomatic consequences. Pathogenetic mechanisms for PMF-associated EMH might include

DISEASE OVERVIEW Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by stem cell-derived clonal myeloproliferation, abnormal cytokine expression, bone marrow fibrosis, anemia, splenomegaly, extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH), constitutional symptoms, cachexia, leukemic progression, and shortened survival. DIAGNOSIS DIAGNOSIS is based on bone marrow morphology. The pres...

Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a rare chronic BCR-ABL1-negative myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by progressive bone marrow fibrosis, inefficient hematopoiesis, and shortened survival. The clinical manifestations of PMF include splenomegaly, consequent to extramedullary hematopoiesis, pancytopenias, and an array of potentially debilitating constitutional symptoms. The diagnosis is base...

Extramedullary hematopoiesis is an extension of marrow beyond its bony casement. It is associated with a number of diseses when the normal function of marrow is disturbed. A large accumulation of extramedullary hematopoiesis may occur at the paravertebral area, mediastinum, spleen and liver. Intrarenal extramedullary hematopoiesis is rare.Only a few cases have been reported of myelofi...

Myelofibrosis (MF) is a clinical manifestation of chronic BCR-ABL1-negative chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms. Splenomegaly is one of the major clinical manifestations of MF and is directly linked to splenic extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH). EMH is associated with abnormal trafficking patterns of clonal hematopoietic cells due to the dysregulated bone marrow (BM) microenvironment leading t...

Myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia is a hematologic disorder currently classified with polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia as a chronic myeloproliferative disease. The median age at diagnosis is 60 years, and more than 90% of patients are diagnosed after age 40 years. Clinical manifestations include massive splenomegaly, progressive anemia, profound constitutional symptoms, and e...
