چکیده

New unstable temperature gradient driven modes in an inhomogeneous plasma are identified. These modes represent transient ω ≃ k‖v (e,i) th sound oscillations in magnetized plasma that are kinetically destabilized via Landau interactions. Electron and ion sound branches are unstable for large values of the Larmor radius parameter k⊥ρe,i ≫ 1, respectively. The instability occurs due to a specific plasma response that significantly deviates from Boltzmann distribution in the region k⊥ρi,e ≫ 1 . Pacs: 52.35 Kt, 52.35 Qz Small scale instabilities driven by temperature gradients are believed to be responsible for particle and energy transport in a tokamak. Short wavelength temperature gradient driven modes in tokamak plasmas.

New unstable temperature gradient driven modes in an inhomogeneous tokamak plasma are identified. These modes represent temperature gradient (ion and electron) driven modes destabilized in the short wavelength regions with k( perpendicular )rho(i,e)>>1, respectively. The instability occurs due to a specific plasma response that significantly deviates from Boltzmann distribution in the regions k...

Temperature gradient driven short wavelength modes in sheared slab plasmas

The temperature gradient (h i and he) driven instability in the short wavelength regime, ukyr iu .1, is studied in a sheared slab. An analytical analysis is performed first to clarify the physics mechanisms for the modes in a shearless slab. The correlation between the growth rate and the real frequency of the modes is discussed in detail. The electron temperature gradient is found to have stro...

On the dispersion relation for the kinetic Alfvén wave in an inhomogeneous plasma

The kinetic Alfvén wave has been recognized as an important wave mode in magnetospheric plasmas and laboratory plasmas, and has potential application in many areas of cosmic plasma physics. The kinetic dispersion relation of this mode has been described including finite frequency and finite ion gyroradius corrections. Laboratory plasmas as well as plasmas in space often contain strong gradients...

Gyrokinetic simulation model for kinetic magnetohydrodynamic processes in magnetized plasmas

A nonlinear gyrokinetic simulation model incorporating equilibrium current has been formulated for studying kinetic magnetohydrodynamic processes in magnetized plasmas. This complete formulation enables gyrokinetic simulation of both pressure-gradient-driven and current-driven instabilities as well as their nonlinear interactions in multiscale simulations. The gyrokinetic simulation model recov...
