Summary On-die termination (ODT) promises higher signaling rates for printed circuit board (PCB) interchip interfaces through improved signal integrity. However, when using ODT, there is sometimes an associated power penalty. This application note explains the reason for the power penalty and suggests a simulation technique for comparing the signal integrity and power dissipation of internally and externally terminated versions of an interface. The termination architecture that is most appropriate to a product’s requirements can be chosen intelligently in advance, thus saving valuable engineering design cycles.

Learners’ eye movements during construction of mechanical kinematic representations from static diagrams

We investigated the influence of numbered arrows on construction of mechanical kinematic representations by using static diagrams. Undergraduate participants viewed a two-stage diagram depicting a flushing cistern (with or without numbered arrows) and answered questions about its function, step-bystep. The arrow group demonstrated greater overall accuracy and made fewer errors on the measure of...

Spatial Density Voronoi Diagram and Construction

To fill a theory gap of Voronoi diagrams that there have been no reports of extended diagrams in spatial density so far. A new concept of spatial density Voronoi diagram was proposed. An important property was presented and proven. And a construction algorithm was presented. Spatial density can be used to indicate factors related to density such as conveyance and the traffic conditions. Some pr...

Accurate Eye Diagram Prediction Based on Step Response and Its Application to Low-Power Equalizer Design

This paper introduces a step response based method to predict the eye diagram for high-speed signaling systems. The method is able to predict accurately the worst-case eye diagram, and is orders of magnitude faster than the method using SPICE simulation with input of random bits. The proposed method is applied to search optimal equalizer parameters for lower-power transmission-line signaling sc...

Efficient State-Diagram Construction Methods for Software Pipelining

State diagram based approach has been proposed as an eeec-tive way to model resource constraints in traditional instruction scheduling and software pipelining methods. However, the constructed state diagram for software pipelining method (i) is very large and (ii) contains signiicant amount of replicated, and hence redundant, information on legal latency sequences. As a result, the construction...

Eye Detection Based-on Color and Shape Features

This paper presents an eye detection technique basedon color and shape features. The approach consists of three steps: a rough eye localization using projection technique, a white color thresholding to extract white sclera, and an ellipse fitting to fit the ellipse shape of eye. The proposed white color thresholding utilizes the normalized RGB chromaticty diagram, where white color objects are ...

An Integrated Quantitative Risk Analysis Method for Major Construction Accidents Using Fuzzy Concepts and Influence Diagram

The accident factor identification and risk assessment is an essential requirement for prevention of major construction accidents in the construction project process. An integrated quantitative risk assessment (IQRA) method has been proposed in this paper to overcome the problems of difficult to quantify accident probability for construction industry. The proposed approach employs influence dia...
