Phase Noise Amplitude Dependence in Self-limiting Wine-glass Disk Oscillators

چکیده

Self-limiting 46.4-MHz series resonant reference oscillators employing a wine-glass mode disk micromechanical resonator to avoid hard limiting without the need for ALC have achieved measured phase noises of -113 and -134 dBc/Hz at 1kHz and far-fromcarrier offsets, respectively. When divided down to 10MHz frequency for fair comparison with other oscillators, these values correspond to -126 dBc/Hz and -147 dBc/Hz, which now satisfy specifications for low-end cellular handsets. For these oscillators, 1/f phase noise is found to be independent of vibration amplitude for amplitudes below critical Duffing, which pares down the list of possible mechanisms to those that are amplitude independent.

Analysis of Oscillation Amplitude and Phase Error in Multiphase LC Oscillators

Abstract   This work proposes a novel method to find the phase error and oscillation amplitude in multiphase LC oscillators. A mathematical approach is used to find the relationship between every stage's output phase and its coupling factor. To much more general analysis, every stage assumed to have a different coupling factor. The mismatches in LC tanks are considered as the main source of pha...

A Phase Noise Reduction Technique in LC Cross-coupled Oscillators with Adjusting Transistors Operating Regions

In this paper, an intuitive analysis of a phase noise reduction technique is done, and then a modified structure is proposed to achieve higher phase noise reduction than the original one. This method reduces the impact of noise sources on the phase noise by decreasing closed-loop gain in zero-crossings points and moving this high closed-loop gain to the non-zero-crossings points. This reduction...

Synchronization of self-sustained oscillators by common white noise

We study the stability of self-sustained oscillations under the influence of external noise. For small-noise amplitude a phase approximation for the Langevin dynamics is valid. A stationary distribution of the phase is used for an analytic calculation of the maximal Lyapunov exponent. We demonstrate that for small noise the exponent is negative, which corresponds to synchronization of oscillato...

Phase Noise in Multi-Gigahertz CMOS Ring Oscillators

An analysis of the phase noise in differential and singleended ring oscillators using a time-variant model is presented. An expression for the RMS value of the impulse sensitivity function (ISF) is derived. A closed-form equation for phase noise of ring oscillators is calculated and a lower limit on the phase noise of ring oscillators is shown. Phase noise measurements of oscillators running up...
