Semi-Implicit Approximation of Wave Maps into Smooth or Convex Surfaces
نویسنده
چکیده
A semi-implicit, lowest order finite element scheme for the approximation of wave maps into smooth or convex surfaces is devised and its stability is analyzed. Convergence is established for the case of the unit sphere as a target manifold, which is unconditional in case of (2+1) Minkowski space. Numerical experiments illustrate the theoretical results.

A Transformation Method for Solving the Hamilton{--}jacobi{--}bellman Equation for a Constrained Dynamic Stochastic Optimal Allocation Problem
We propose and analyse a method based on the Riccati transformation for solving the evolutionary Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation arising from the dynamic stochastic optimal allocation problem. We show how the fully nonlinear Hamilton–Jacobi– Bellman equation can be transformed into a quasilinear parabolic equation whose diffusion function is obtained as the value function of a certain parametr...
متن کاملContinuous Selections and Approximations in Α-convex Metric Spaces
In the paper, the notion of a generalized convexity was defined and studied from the view-point of the selection and approximation theory of set-valued maps. We study the simultaneous existence of continuous relative selections and graph-approximations of lower semicontinuous and upper semicontinuous set-valued maps with α-convex values having nonempty intersection.
متن کاملApproximation of fixed points for a continuous representation of nonexpansive mappings in Hilbert spaces
This paper introduces an implicit scheme for a continuous representation of nonexpansive mappings on a closed convex subset of a Hilbert space with respect to a sequence of invariant means defined on an appropriate space of bounded, continuous real valued functions of the semigroup. The main result is to prove the strong convergence of the proposed implicit scheme to the unique solutio...
متن کاملImplicit boundary integral methods for the Helmholtz equation in exterior domains
We propose a new algorithm for solving Helmholtz equations in the exterior domain. The algorithm not only combines the advantages of implicit surface representation and the boundary integral method, but also provides a new way to compute a class of the so-called hypersingular integrals. The keys to the proposed algorithm are the derivation of the volume integrals which are equivalent to any giv...
متن کاملA High Order Approximation of the Two Dimensional Acoustic Wave Equation with Discontinuous Coefficients
This paper concerns with the modeling and construction of a fifth order method for two dimensional acoustic wave equation in heterogenous media. The method is based on a standard discretization of the problem on smooth regions and a nonstandard method for nonsmooth regions. The construction of the nonstandard method is based on the special treatment of the interface using suitable jump conditio...
