Molecular regulation of autophagy related genes in papillary thyroid carcinoma

چکیده
Background: Thyroid papillary carcinoma is the most common clinical thyroid malignancy. Autophagy is related to the occurrence and development of tumors. However, there is no report about the correlation between autophagy protein expression and biological characteristics of thyroid papillary carcinoma and lymph node metastasis. Therefore, the authors studied the relationship between autophagy protein expression and thyroid papillary carcinoma. Methods: In this study, we detected the mRNA and protein expressions of LC3, Beclin1, ATG2b, ATG3, ATG4a, ATG4b, ATG4c, ATG5, ATG7 and ATG10 in papillary thyroid carcinoma patients’ blood. Results: We found that the expression of Beclin1 and LC3 in blood of the patients was significantly higher than that of the normal group, suggesting that the autophagic activity was enhanced in the thyroid tumor. Discussion: The results show that autophagy is associated with the occurrence and the progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma. The autophagy can become a new therapeutic target, especially to prevent the recurrence of postoperative cervical lymph node recurrence in papillary thyroid carcinoma.

An Unusual Case Report: Occurrence of Renal Cell Carcinoma, Basal Cell Carcinoma and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in a Case of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Treated with Radioactive Iodine
The standard therapy for thyroid cancer is total or near total thyroidectomy, followed by the administration of radioactive iodine for remnant ablation or residual disease. Patients with radioiodine therapy are predisposed to second malignant neoplasms in organs such as central nervous system (CNS), breast, prostate, kidney, bone marrow, salivary gland, and digestive tract. Exposure to carcinog...
متن کاملMultiple non-malignant iodine uptake in a 131I whole body scan of a patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma: Importance of SPECT/CT
After thyroidectomy in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients, whole body radioiodine scan (WBIS) is necessary for localization of any abnormal radioiodine avid lesions. However false-positive radioiodine uptake in WBIS can be problematic. We report a 32 years old female patient with PTC. After thyroidectomy and radioiodine therapy WBIS was performed. In her post therapy WBIS, there were zo...
متن کاملExpression of Autophagy-Related Proteins in Different Types of Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancer is common type of malignant tumor in humans, and the autophagy status of such tumors may vary according to subtype. This study aimed to investigate the expression and implications of the major autophagy-related molecules light chain (LC) 3A, LC3B, p62, and BNIP-3 in human thyroid carcinoma. Tissue microarrays were constructed from 555 thyroid cancers (papillary thyroid carcinoma ...

F-18 FDG is the most widely used tracer in molecular imaging and it is applied for many purposes mainly in malignant diseases. Incidental finding are common in FDG-PET/CT imaging and includes benign and malignant lesions. Among the rare tumors , adrenal oncocytomas are uncommon findings and incidental findings of thyroid malignancies are not rare. Oncocytoma is a rare adrenocortical tumor and m...

The most usual form of the endocrine carcinoma is thyroid cancer (TC). In addition to papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), recent studies revealed incidence of RET/PTC rearrangement in other tumors, like Hürthle cell carcinoma (HCC) and even in non-carcinomatous disorders like Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Here, we present a case with concurrence of papillary thyroid carcinoma and Hürthle cell carcino...
