چکیده
Manuscript received and accepted: 2 August and 15 September 2008 Biliary atresia is a rare disease characterized by a biliary obstruction of unknown origin that presents in the neonatal period. We present the magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC) from a 25 years old women who was treated in the neonatal period with Kasai operation. The MRC reveals a choledochal cyst and shows multiple saccular dilatation of both left and right hepatic ducts.

Antireflux Valve in Post Cholecystojeju-nostomy Cholangitis: An Animal Study
Background: One of the most important post-operation problems encountered with Hepaticojejunostomy (Kasai operation) in patients with biliary atresia is cholangitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of anti-reflux valve in decreasing the incidence of cholangitis after hepaticojejunostomy. Methods: Ten dogs were randomly divided into two groups of equal size. In group A Roux-...
متن کاملImpact of age at Kasai operation on its results in late childhood and adolescence: a rational basis for biliary atresia screening.
BACKGROUND Increased age at surgery has a negative impact on results of the Kasai operation for biliary atresia in infancy and early childhood. It remained unclear if an age threshold exists and if this effect persists with extended follow-up. In this study we examined the relationship between increased age at surgery and its results in adolescence. METHODS All patients with biliary atresia w...
متن کاملSurgical outcome and etiologic heterogeneity of infants with biliary atresia who received Kasai operation less than 60 days after birth
This study aimed to analyze the impact of etiologic heterogeneity and operation age on prognosis of infants with biliary atresia (BA) who received Kasai operation prior to 60 days of age. From 2004 to 2010, 158 infants received Kasai operation before turning 60 days old. According to Davenport 2012 classifications, 4 groups of BA were defined: cystic BA, syndrome BA, and associated malformation,...
متن کاملClinical Benefit of Liver Stiffness Measurement at 3 Months after Kasai Hepatoportoenterostomy to Predict the Liver Related Events in Biliary Atresia
BACKGROUND The progression of hepatic fibrosis may result in decompensated hepatic failure with cirrhosis, liver related events (LRE) such as ascites, variceal bleeding, and death after successful and timely Kasai hepatoportoenterostomy (HPE) in biliary atresia. The aim of this study is to suggest clinical benefit of the liver stiffness measurement (LSM) using transient elastography at 3 months...
