Focus On Ankle Fractures

چکیده
Ankle fractures account for 9% of fractures1 representing a significant portion of the trauma workload: proximal femoral fractures are the only lower limb fracture to present more frequently. Ankle fractures have a bimodal age distribution with peaks in younger males and older females.2 There has been three-fold increase in the incidence amongst elderly females over the past three decades.3 In addition, amongst multiply injured patients foot injuries are prognostically important: those who survive their injuries are far more impaired functionally if they have a foot injury in addition to multisystem trauma.4 This review provides a summary of ankle fractures, including the classification, clinical presentation, appropriate radiological evaluation, treatment and outcomes.

Reliability of Postoperative Radiographies in Ankle Fractures
Background: The accuracy of reduction of ankle fractures using postoperative plain radiographies (x-ray) remainswidely controversial. Some authors have demonstrated that postoperative computed tomography (CT) scan can beuseful for these patients. In current study, the efficacy of x-rays after fixation of ankle fractures was investigated basedon the CT scan findings.Metho...
متن کاملMinimally Invasive Surgical Approach to Distal Fibula Fractures: A Technique Tip
Wound complications following ankle fracture surgery are a major concern. Through the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques some of these complications can be mitigated. Recent investigations have reported on percutaneous fixation of distal fibula fractures demonstrating similar radiographic and functional outcomes to traditional open approaches. The purpose of this manuscript is to ...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW Treatment of osteoporotic and neuropathic ankle fractures in the elderly is challenging. The purpose of this paper is to review recent publications on this topic and to identify the optimal treatment for these fractures. RECENT FINDINGS Treatment consists of a variety of conservative or operative options all with advantages and disadvantages as described in this review. Litt...
متن کاملSyndesmotic Malreduction after Ankle ORIF; Is Radiography Sufficient?
Background: Ankle fractures, especially those resulting from external rotation mechanisms are associated with injury to the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis. Some authors have recommended performing CT scanning after open ankle surgery to evaluate the reduction of syndesmosis. In this current study, we aimed to investigate the sensitivity of plain radiography in diagnosing syndesmosis malreduc...
متن کاملVitamin D in Foot and Ankle Fracture Healing: A Literature Review and Research Design.
UNLABELLED Vitamin D is a generic name for a group of essential vitamins, or secosteroids, important in calcium homeostasis and bone metabolism. Specifically, efficacy of vitamin D with regard to bone healing is in question. A literature review was performed, finding mostly large studies involving vitamin D effects on prevention of fractures and randomized animal model studies consisting of con...
