Euler's Polyhedron Formula

چکیده
where V , E, and F are, respectively, the number of vertices, edges, and faces of p. The formula was first stated in print by Euler in 1758 [11]. The proof given here is based on Poincaré’s linear algebraic proof, stated in [17] (with a corrected proof in [18]), as adapted by Imre Lakatos in the latter’s Proofs and Refutations [15]. As is well known, Euler’s formula is not true for all polyhedra. The condition on polyhedra considered here is that of being a homology sphere, which says that the cycles (chains whose boundary is zero) are exactly the bounding chains (chains that are the boundary of a chain of one higher dimension). The present proof actually goes beyond the three-dimensional version of the polyhedral formula given by Lakatos; it is dimension-free, in the sense that it gives a formula in which the dimension of the polyhedron is a parameter. The classical Euler relation V − E + F = 2 is corresponds to the case where the dimension of the polyhedron is 3. The main theorem, expressed in the language of the present article, is

A New Euler's Formula for DNA Polyhedra
DNA polyhedra are cage-like architectures based on interlocked and interlinked DNA strands. We propose a formula which unites the basic features of these entangled structures. It is based on the transformation of the DNA polyhedral links into Seifert surfaces, which removes all knots. The numbers of components μ, of crossings c, and of Seifert circles s are related by a simple and elegant formu...
متن کاملEuler's Formula via Potential Functions
A new proof of Euler's formula for polytopes is presented via an approach using potential functions. In particular, a connection between Euler's formula and the Morse relation from differential topology is established.
متن کاملAngle counts for isothetic polygons and polyhedra
In the case of isothetic simple polyhedra there are only six different types of 3D angles. This article states and proofs a formula about counts of these angles. This complements formulas in combinatorial topology such as Euler's polyhedron formula, or the previously known formula on angle counts for isothetic polygons. The latter formula and the shown equality for angle counts of isothetic sim...
متن کاملEvaluating Some Integrals with Maple
This paper uses the mathematical software Maple for the auxiliary tool to evaluate two types of integrals. We can obtain the closed forms of these two types of integrals by using Euler's formula, DeMoivre's formula, and finite geometric series. In addition, we provide two integrals to do calculation practically. The research methods adopted in this study involved finding solutions through manua...
متن کاملEuler's Method for O.D.E.'s
The first method we shall study for solving differential equations is called Euler's method, it serves to illustrate the concepts involved in the advanced methods. It has limited use because of the larger error that is accumulated with each successive step. However, it is important to study Euler's method because the remainder term and error analysis is easier to understand. Theorem (Euler's Me...
