Direct current cardioversion in a case of congenital atrial flutter.

چکیده
The congenital type of atrial flutter has a poor prognosis when unresponsive to digoxin (Moller, Davachi, and Anderson, 1969). Recorded experience with cardioversion is limited but it has been suggested that this type of flutter is refractory to electric countershock (Rodriguez-Coronel, Sueblingvong, and Hastreiter, 1968). We report an infant with congenital heart defects and congenital atrial flutter who appeared resistant to digoxin and ,B-blockade (practolol) but readily reverted to sinus rhythm with direct current (DC) cardioversion.

Atrial Fibrillation Embolic Complications of Direct Current Cardioversion of Atrial Arrhythmias: Association With Low Intensity of Anticoagulation at the Time of Cardioversion
OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to identify the factors responsible for embolic complications of direct current (DC) cardioversion of atrial arrhythmias. BACKGROUND Direct current cardioversion of atrial fibrillation (AF) carries a risk of thromboembolism, which is reduced, but not eliminated, by anticoagulation. The risk of embolism after conversion of atrial flutter is believed to be lo...
متن کاملDirect current cardioversion does not cause cardiac damage: evidence from cardiac troponin T estimation.
AIM To determine whether elective direct current (dc) cardioversion of atrial fibrillation/flutter causes myocardial damage. METHODS AND RESULTS Cardiac troponin T and creatine kinase were estimated 20-28 hours after dc cardioversion in 51 patients who received dc shocks for elective cardioversion of chronic atrial fibrillation/flutter. Although creatine kinase was raised in 44 patients, card...

Introduction: Most current evidence suggests the risk of left atrial and or auricular thrombi(LA &LAA) in patients with atrial flutter rhythm is similar to patients with atrial fibrillation, but there is still uncertainty in the risk level and the patient's need to receive anticoagulant therapy. Different studies report various frequencies for atrial thrombi and left atrial spontaneous echo-con...
متن کاملA Case Report of Neonatal Atrial Flutter with Poor Feeding and Tachypnea
Background: Arrhythmias in neonates are not common and usually affect newborns with a normal heart or those that suffer from structural heart disease. A malignant type of arrhythmias is supraventricular tachycardia. Meanwhile, one uncommon type of supraventricular arrhythmias is atrial flutter (AFL), which is founded upon reentry mechanisms in the atrium. The AFL may result in heart failure or ...
