Identifying Treatment Activities for Modelling Computer-Interpretable Clinical Practice Guidelines
نویسندگان
چکیده
Clinical practice guidelines are important instruments to support clinical care. In this work we analysed how activities are formulated in these documents and we tried to represent the activities using patterns based on semantic relations. For this we used the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) and in particular its Semantic Network. Out of it we generated a collection of semantic patterns that can be used to automatically identify activities. In a study we showed that these semantic patterns can cover a large part of the control flow. Using such patterns cannot only support the modelling of computer-interpretable clinical practice guidelines, but can also improve the general comprehension which treatment procedures have to be accomplished. This can also lead to improved compliance of clinical practice guidelines.

Supporting the Abstraction of Clinical Practice Guidelines Using Information Extraction
Modelling clinical practice guidelines in a computer-interpretable format is a challenging and complex task. The modelling process involves both medical experts and computer scientists, who have to interact and communicate together. In order to support both modeller groups we propose to provide them with helpful information automatically generated using NLP methods. We identify this information...
متن کاملSupporting Computer-interpretable Guidelines' Modeling by Automatically Classifying Clinical Actions
Modeling computer-interpretable clinical practice guidelines is a complex and tedious task that has been of interest for several attempts to automate parts of this process. When modeling guidelines one of the tasks is to specify common actions in everyday’s practical medicine (e.g., drug prescription, observation) in order to link them with clinical information systems (e.g., an orderentry syst...
متن کاملToward an adaptive computer-interpretable clinical guideline for personalization of treatments
Computer-Interpretable Clinical Guidelines (CIGs) are Clinical Guidelines expressed with computer-interpretable languages. This paper presents the iCareflow framework, which proposes to constraint CIGs with external data in order to personalize medical treatment plans.

This paper presents an overview of computerised decision support for clinical practice. The concept of computer-interpretable guidelines is introduced in the context of the @neurIST project, which aims at supporting the research and treatment of asymptomatic unruptured cerebral aneurysms by bringing together heterogeneous data, computing and complex processing services. The architecture is gene...
متن کاملDeclarative and Procedural Approaches for Modelling Clinical Guidelines: Addressing Flexibility Issues
Recent analysis of clinical Computer-Interpretable Guideline (CIG) modelling languages from the perspective of the control-flow patterns has revealed limited capabilities of these languages to provide flexibility for encoding and executing clinical guidelines. The concept of flexibility is of major importance in the medical-care domain since no guarantee can be given on predicting the state of ...
