Adaptive Power Saving Mechanism for 10 Gigabit Class PON Systems

چکیده
This paper proposes a power saving mechanism with variable sleep period to reduce the power consumed by optical network units (ONUs) in passive optical network (PON) systems. In the PON systems based on time division multiplexing (TDM), sleep and periodic wake-up (SPW) control is an effective ONU power saving technique. However, the effectiveness of SPW control is fully realized only if the sleep period changes in accordance with the traffic conditions. This paper proposes an SPW control mechanism with variable sleep period. The proposed mechanism sets the sleep period according to traffic conditions, which greatly improves the power saving effect. In addition, the protocols needed between an optical line terminal (OLT) and ONUs are described on the assumption that the proposed mechanism is applied to 10 Gigabit (10G) class PON systems, i.e. IEEE 802.3av 10G-EPON and FSAN/ITU-T 10G-PON systems. The validity of the proposed mechanism is confirmed by numerical simulations. key words: passive optical network, 10G-EPON, 10G-PON, power saving, sleep control

Pipelined Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation for Power Saving in XG-PON
This paper proposes a pipelined dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) scheme for 10-gigabit-capable passive optical networks (XG-PONs). The proposed scheme performs a DBA operation in multiple stages to save power. Also, requests are forwarded to next stages to obtain high performance.
متن کاملIndirect Adaptive Interval Type-2 Fuzzy PI Sliding Mode Control for a Class of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems
Controller design remains an elusive and challenging problem foruncertain nonlinear dynamics. Interval type-2 fuzzy logic systems (IT2FLS) incomparison with type-1 fuzzy logic systems claim to effectively handle systemuncertainties especially in the presence of disturbances and noises, but lack aformal mechanism to guarantee performance. In contrast, adaptive sliding modecontrol (ASMC) provides...
متن کاملNext Generation Optical Access Network: Standardization Outline and Key Technologies for Co-existence with Legacy Systems
Users are increasingly demanding broadband services, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) is the main technology to answer these demands. Gigabit-class passive optical network (PON) systems, IEEE802.3ah GE-PON [1] or ITU-T G.984 G-PON [2] have been widely deployed and used by many network operators. The number of FTTH users in Asia is increasing and has exceeded 30 million [3]. Especially in Japan the ...
متن کاملADAPTIVE FUZZY OUTPUT FEEDBACK TRACKING CONTROL FOR A CLASS OF NONLINEAR TIME-VARYING DELAY SYSTEMS WITH UNKNOWN BACKLASH-LIKE HYSTERESIS
This paper considers the problem of adaptive output feedback tracking control for a class of nonstrict-feedback nonlinear systems with unknown time-varying delays and unknown backlash-like hysteresis. Fuzzy logic systems are used to estimate the unknown nonlinear functions. Based on the Lyapunov–Krasovskii method, the control scheme is constructed by using the backstepping and adaptive techniqu...
متن کاملFull-asynchronous gigabit-symmetric DPSK downstream and OOK upstream OCDMA-PON with source-free ONUs employing all-optical self-clocked time gate.
We propose an asynchronous gigabit-symmetric optical code division multiplexing access passive optical network (OCDMA-PON) in which optical network units (ONUs) are source-free. In the experiment, we demonstrate a duplex OCDMA system with a 50 km 10 Gbit/s/user 4-user DPSK-OCDMA downlink and a 50 km 10 Gbit/s/user 4-user OOK-OCDMA uplink and error-free duplex transmissions are achieved. Besides...
