CLINICAL SCIENCE Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK) Using Corneal Donor Tissue Not Acceptable for Use in Penetrating Keratoplasty as a Result of Anterior Stromal Scars, Pterygia, and Previous Corneal Refractive Surgical Procedures

چکیده
Methods: We conducted a review of our initial 42 (19 with 6-month follow up) consecutive DSAEK surgeries using ASF tissue compared with 357 (199 with 6-month follow up) time-matched controls using standard tissue. Intraoperative and perioperative complications, including dislocations and primary graft failures, were compared. Six-month best spectacle-corrected vision, incidence of rejection episodes, postoperative refractive astigmatism, keratometric values, preand postoperative topography-derived surface asymmetry index, and surface regularity index were compared.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2010 CATARACT & REFRACTIVE SURGERY TODAY EUROPE 23 F ull-thickness penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) has been the preferred corneal transplantation technique since the procedure was first described in 1905 by Eduard Zirm.1 Today, PKP generally results in clear corneal grafts, with a graft survival rate of up to 72% at 5 years.2 However, the procedure is frequently complicated by ...
متن کاملDonor and surgical risk factors for primary graft failure following Descemet’s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty in Asian eyes
BACKGROUND Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) has been shown to have superior refractive and visual results compared with penetrating keratoplasty, but higher rates of primary graft failure (PGF). This paper presents donor and surgical risk factors for PGF in DSAEK cases in Asian eyes. DESIGN Retrospective case-control study. PARTICIPANTS All consecutive patient...
متن کاملDescemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty – A Review
Descemet’s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) has become the procedure of choice to treat corneal endothelial dysfunction. The technique involves replacing the diseased host endothelium with a graft consisting of a thin layer of posterior stroma, Descemet’s membrane and endothelium. In comparison with penetrating keratoplasty (PK), DSAEK confers quicker visual and structural r...
متن کاملPatch Grafting Using a Cryopreserved Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty Flap for Treating Corneal Perforation
A 73-year-old woman with a corneal perforation of undetermined etiology was treated with corneal patch grafting. A residual partial-thickness corneal button obtained during a previous Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) surgery and stored at -80°C in Optisol GS for 3 months was used as a patch graft. Five days postoperatively, the anterior chamber was reformed and the ...
متن کاملRisk Factors for Failure of Keratoplasty in Keratoconus: Penetrating vs. Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty
Purpose: To determine the etiologic factors on rejection and failure rates and ocular surface changes after corneal transplantation by either DALK or PKP, in cases of keratoconus (KCN). Methods: In this cross-sectional study, considering the existing data, patients with keratoconus referring to Labbafinejad Medical Center from 2006 to 2016, who underwent corneal transplantation, were enrolled a...
