چکیده

INTRODUCTION Among the various commercially available data collecting system for use with a flexible electrogoniometer, there is currently a paucity of a user friendly system. What is required is a system where by clicking a single button a user can remotely record and transmit the information pertaining to the flexion/extension of the knee during activities of daily living (ADL) via a Bluetooth wireless connection. Such a device could be used to quantify the knee joint motion outside the gait laboratory, efficiently, by clinical staff at low cost and hence would be suitable for use in multi-centre clinical trials of TKA.

Inter rater reliability of Strathclyde University Data Logging System (SUDALS) compared to a commercial data logger in recording the knee kinematics during the activities of daily living (ADL) 1Vivek Padmanaabhan Indramohan, 2Gopal Valsan and 3Philip

INTRODUCTION The rationale for a user-friendly system of flexible electrogoniometers has been previously established and the Strathclyde University data logging system (SUDALS) together with flexible electrogoniometers has been reported to be an accurate and reliable system for measuring the functional outcomes of the knee during various activities of daily living (ADL) [1]. However, prior to r...

Knee Fusion or Above-The-Knee Amputation after Failed Two-Stage Reimplantation Total Knee Arthroplasty

Prosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a serious complication of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Control of infection after a failed two-stage TKA is not always possible, and the resolution of infection may require an above-knee amputation (AKA) or a the-knee (KF). The purpose of this review is to determine which treatment method (AKA or KF) yields better function and ambulatory status for patients...

Patient Satisfaction Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: Comparison of Short-Term Results in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis

Background: Due to the obvious differences in the natural course of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA),different functional outcomes might be expected after Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) in these distinct patients. Althoughseveral studies have reported the objective outcome of TKA in RA and OA patients, few studies have compared postoperativepatient-satisfaction levels. Methods: I...

Comparison of Clinical, Functional, and Radiological Outcomes of Total Knee Arthroplasty Using Conventional and Patient-Specific Instrumentation

Background: Recently, patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) systems have been developed in order to increase theaccuracy of component positioning during total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, the findings of previous studies arecontroversial in this regard. In the current randomized clinical study, the outcomes of computer tomography (CT)-basedPS (patient specific)-guided TK...
