Anomalies in a Lennard-Jones-like gas with long-range interactions

چکیده
We study, through molecular dynamics, a conservative two-dimensional Lennard-Jones-like gas (with attractive potential ∝ r−α). We consider the effect of the range index α of interactions, number of particles, total energy and particle density. We detect anomalies in the behavior of such systems when the interactions become long-ranged (0 ≤ α/d < 1), particularly negative specific heat and non-Maxwellian distribution of velocities. متن کاملThe Modified Lennard-Jones and Devonshire Equation of State
Lennard-Jones-Devonshire equation of state is an old but theoretical based EOS. The concept of the nearest neighboring molecules or coordination number is proposed to be a function of temperature and volume, whereas it is a constant in the original. The dilute gas and hard sphere limits of molecules are employed to determine this function. Improvement of this modification is demonstrated by pro...
متن کاملLennard-Jones Energy Parameter for Pure Fluids from Scaled Particle Theory
By considering the fact that the surface tension of a real fluid arises from a combination of both repulsive and attractive forces between molecules, a new expression for the interfacial tension has been derived from scaled particle theory (SPT) based on the work of cavity formation and the interaction energy between molecules. At the critical temperature, the interfacial tension between c...
متن کاملEstimation of second virial coefficients for rare gases in thermodynamic views
Using the Gaussian 2003 software and MP2/ 6–311 ++ G** method for He: He, Ne:Ne andMP2/6-31G method for Ar: Ar, Kr: Kr and HF/STO-3G method for Xe: Xe, the optimizedinteraction energies between two like atoms of rare gases (He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe) as a functionof the distances between the centers of two considered atoms were evaluated and the resultswere interpreted according to the Lennard – Jo...
متن کاملA molecular-dynamics simulation study on the dependence of Lennard-Jones gas-liquid phase diagram on the long-range part of the interactions.
The particle-transfer molecular-dynamics technique is adopted to construct the Lennard-Jones fluid gas-liquid phase diagram. Detailed study of the dependence of the simulation results on the system size and the cutoff distance is performed to test the validity of the simulation technique. Both the traditional cutoff plus long-range correction (CPC) and Ewald summation methods are used in the si...
