Determining the Relation between Fire Engine Travel Times and Travel Distances in New York City

چکیده

A simple physical model of the way fire engines travel leads to the hypothesis that T, the average fire engine travel time, depends on D, the distance travelled according to T(D) = 2(D/a)'12 if D ? d and T(D)=v,/a+D/v, if D>d. The parameter a can be interpreted as an acceleration and v, as a cruising velocity. A field experiment was run, and the above model validated and the parameters estimated, for New York City. It was also found that regional traffic conditions and hour of day appear to have only minor effects on average response velocities.

The Analysis of Urban Form Elements Effect on the Behaviour of the travel and to Develop low-carbon City Case Study: Tabriz Metropolitan

There is a wide body of literature indicating a strong link between urban form and carbon emissions in the transport sector, this is done through the impact of city form components on citizen’s travel behavior. Therefore, in urban low carbon development theory, the reduction of cavalry production through changes in urban form elements is considered. This paper investigates the effects of urban ...

A multi-objective model for locating fire stations

The purpose of this paper is to determine where to locate fire-station facilities. The decision of where to locate depends upon a set of tangible and intangible criteria that are unique to a given problem. Thus, the traditional models that incorporate only travel times or travel distances are no longer appropriate. This paper presents a multiple criteria modeling approach, via integer goal prog...

Empirical Analysis of Ambulance Travel Times: The Case of Calgary Emergency Medical Services

Using administrative data for high-priority calls in Calgary, Alberta, we estimate how ambulance travel times depend on distance. We find that a logarithmic transformation produces symmetric travel-time distributions with heavier tails than those of a normal distribution. Guided by non-parametric estimates of the median and coefficient of variation, we demonstrate that a previously proposed mod...

Estimating Travel Times to Forest-Fires Using Resistance Surfaces

The time between when a fire crew is dispatched to a fire and when it arrives is an important factor in determining the size of a forest-fire and the resources required to put the fire out. Traditionally, travel time has been looked at as a point-to-point network problem. In this case, travel (by vehicle and by foot) may start and end at an infinite number of locations across the landscape. A r...
